New players need more info about support

I've always wondered why support isn't a role that gets picked often. Well the adc could be toxic and most people just like to do damage and get kills, but why exactly? Then, when I started this smurf, I came to realize that pre-6 there's not even a real support champ available. You only have damagers. Which could be played in top/mid and adc role and possible jungle. In the first few bot games they won't encounter supports so they think that going 2 damagers is just perfectly okay (Lux+MF bot for example). Then finally come blind pick where it's a mess and people just go randomly (if they're really new) which is fine, but still everyone just goes for their damagers. As seeing in the last 2 days, you barely see Braum being played by new players (forget the fact that some might be smurfs).

They will finally face the role support in draft when they see people play it or when they get autofilled (if that is still a thing) for it but then they have no clue what they must do/build and end up just going as a 2nd midlaner in botlane or whatever lane they want since they might go just mid or whatever lane they want to go.

By the time they finally know what a support does they're almost high level and then they pobably won't even bother trying support cause they're used to go damagers and go for kills and forget that there's still a role which you need to be able to form a team.

For myself speaking as a support main on my main account, I decided to go support because a friend told me to try that role and I enjoyed it after getting some help from him and other supports I know. If he didn't tell me about support I would've been an ADC main or a mid main (I played that a lot before I went support) instead of support.

So why not make some sort of team introduction and convince people to try support, to get to know that role which is still important in higher levels and even in ranked. Instead of actually making people believe that 'more damage' makes you win games.

You know what this is the first post in the gameplay section i have seen that actually makes any sense.

I completely agree with you.

I myself have been thinking why Riot never made a set of videos for new players as an introduction to League of Legends as well as a set of videos as an introduction to the different type of roles that are played so new players can get a handle of how to play the basics better/ learn the basics in the correct way.

i myself do not have time to help out new players in the middle of a real pvp game because instead of trying to type and help them out while standing afk for 60% of the game i just have to do it myself, and im a support main as well.

im just thinking that it would make more players understand how the roles work in a basic stand point to learn from as well as allow them to find alternative ways of playing the role.

and this is coming from a season 2 player.

support role was never a real role to begin with O.o

all supports now were once either mages tanks or fighters,

support is a gray area, and any champion can support.

riot once stated they want any champion to be played on any role, and remove roles completey, removing that limit so to speak.

Okay you can play every champ as support but if they pick a Lux botlane they go doran's ring with full AP and people get mad since they don't buy sightstone. It's just that even whatever champ they play they still need 'support' knowledge which isn't really given anywhere at the start.

Later on in draft pick you see that you have 2 botlane, 1 mid, 1 top and a jungler but that support in botlane is mainly just a random champ (which is fine) but then with a full AP build from the midlane. And don't you hate it when your support doesn't ward or buys sightstone, steals your cs as adc and kills everything in normals or lower ranked?

i personally always go full ap sup, but i do buy sightstone and sup item at start, than somewhere mid i sell my sup item, and sometimes even late when i almost have full build, i sell sightsone, since most battles are conducted mid, and the game counts 15 free wards O.O

the thing is when this game started out, i had the same thing. everyone kinda has/had .-. people were trying to find certain strategies and stuff, certain items didn't exist, riot did have a tutorial, when you started the game messages would pop up, and tell you about choosing which lane and lane explanation, ofcourse supports should buy wards and support item, it doesn't matter much if they take some of your minions though, that little gold is insignificant, and exp is shared. but yeah taking alot of minions is bad. they will learn about roles later on like everyone O.O

the issue is that since 2010-2011 new players are forced to play bot games untill level 3, thats something we definitely didn't have back then.

That is perfectly understandable, I myself also sell my Sightstone in lategame, but I am talking about those supports that just go full ap from minute 1 who don't create vision and are just the 2nd adc/apc botlane.

I mean just a quick introduction of every role and the basics would give support enough attention so people know what they should do.

true i agree riot needs to bring back tutorials O.O and ditch the requirement to fight bots till lvl 3 its pointless O.o
