Supporting Incentives

Recently, I've seen a lot of threads about incentivizing support a little more/ making it feel more impactful on your game. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to go about doing this ?

Support doesn't need a change to its core identity, it just needs to be reminded how useful it is.

Agreed, there isn't a gameplay incentive they could use that wouldn't make the role broken. Support is already a strong and impactful role, most people just don't realize it because a good support isn't the one getting the kills or dealing insane amounts of damage.

Assist anouncements and post game stats like damage negated/shielded, spells blocked are the kinds of incentives people need.

I second this, as a support I don't want to feel like I'm not doing anything, if the game had an assist announce on things like double kills and up, id be fine knowing that I helped secure those kills, even if I died in the process

I think supporting should receive a large-scale update to make it more feel more enjoyable, rewarding, and impactful. We may need a meta-shift to let supports have the freedom to support any lane, constantly roam, or even support the jungler. But that kind of change would require tons of research and planning.

In the meantime, Riot should just add some simple and direct rewards for playing the least popular role. I think it should work like this: when you go to queue up for a role, an icon (like the 50% faster queue time text) will display on any roles bottlenecking queue times due to demand greatly outweighing supply. If you pick the low-supply role (11 times out of 10, this will be support), you will receive a higher chance of obtaining a hextech key fragment after the game if you win.

At the same time, Riot could also institute a "honor" bonus to key fragment rates, so that you will be more likely to get a hextech key if other players choose to honor you after the match - this would discourage the hypothetical "troll Yi support" queuing for support and then just jungling. This would also encourage players to use the honor system if they enjoyed playing with someone. Also, because there is currently a key fragment bonus for playing with invited friends, that bonus could be replaced with the honor incentive and it could be balanced out to a similar effect because invited friends will be more likely to exchange honors after a game.

more mobility more damage more outplay potential more kill pressure more wave clear more flashy moves

less shields less healing less "buff your ally"

now seriously: Less ADCs. Make game not absolutely require ADC.

for the most part. the issue with gold. and the items are too generic. you play support. you have to build the same 3-4 items. because even late game most support don't have 6 items. or even 5

Here, have look at this.

Imo it's something LoL needs.

More IP gains for picking support in queue. It will speed up queue times and get people to play it.

and then u end up with MasterYi support because he wants "MOAR IP!"
