How to be a good Jhin?

Slasp··2 votes·687 views

I'm considering trying Jhin, and I would like some tips and tricks for him. -Laning phase tricks/tips/rules of thumb -Combos/Harass -Power Spikes/Items which give him power spikes I don't need an overview of his skills, but it would be great if someone could explain the usefulness and applications of his skills, in both laning phase & fights. -How to manage his 4th hit/passives, how to take advantage of them -Synergy with supports (not urgent, just wondering) -Strengths and weaknesses -What separates good Jhins from bad Jhins Thanks for the help! Any additional information/tips are helpful as well.

what i notice from a good jhin and a bad one is their positioning and how long they tend to hold their passive a bad one still tries to run at you after the 4th shot is off and decent ones back off for a bit and sometimes launches a w at you to help keep you off them

Thanks, will take note of that :)

So, here's what I can recall right off-hand (though I may not be able to answer all of it accurately)

-Laning phase tricks/tips/rules of thumb

  1. Most of the time, you'll be reserving your 4th Death in Four Acts shot for Minions - it does %missing health damage, so unless you're committing to a fight or your opponent has low health already, you're better off spending it on low-health minions
  2. Always keep an eye out for opportunities to throw Dancing Grenade to chain CS - if there are three ranged Minions with a pinch of health left, throw Dancing Grenade on them.
  3. Also, try to manage Dancing Grenade throws carefully - using it too frequently (any time there's a low health minion that could be killed by it while you're reloading, for example) will leave you without mana pretty fast.

-Combos/Harass

  1. If you're looking to harass and you're not particularly worried about CS, try unloading your entire ammo counter into one target - preferably the ADC to put pressure on them.
  2. You can also try to chain your Dancing Grenade to kill minions and land its fourth bounce on a Champion to do serious damage. Remember; Dancing Grenade always chains to the nearest enemy unit.
  3. For combos, the obvious would be Deadly Flourish on someone triggering your Captive Audience traps, though even with the target being slowed, it takes some measure of aim.
  4. Further than that, you can combo Deadly Flourish on just about any damaging ability your allies throw, especially good with certain Supports (which I'll go over soon)
  5. And, if you have some allied Champion with strong lockdown capabilities; put their efforts to use with Deadly Flourish followed by Curtain Call.

-Power Spikes/Items which give him power spikes

While Jhin doesn't have any natural power spikes to hit, he does have a fair few items to get him up there. Namely; Rapid-Fire Cannon, Infinity Edge, and Bloodthirster. Being able to get the Death in Four Acts speed boost on every other auto-attack is extremely beneficial (not to mention the raw damage you'll be putting out will be more than disgusting beautiful)

-Ability Application

Generally, Dancing Grenade is used for waveclear or extra immediate damage in fights. Deadly Flourish is primarily used for helping lock down targets to make them vulnerable, BUT, if you're confident and skilled enough, you can use it to snipe low-health enemies who are obscured by Fog of War. Captive Audience has a good few uses, namely;

  1. Warding (place it in gank locations to get the drop on your enemy jungler or give yourself a heads-up)
  2. Lane security (place it somewhere in lane to either force enemies to stick to one side or take a slow and potentially extra damage)
  3. Scatter tactics (throw it on minions that enemies are hanging near or throw it near where enemies are going to force them to move)

And, lastly, Curtain Call should almost exclusively be used for cleaning up a teamfight, but nobody will fault a good Jhin for using it to peg people with slows by using it as an opener.

-How to manage his 4th hit/passives, how to take advantage of them

Generally, Beauty in Death is the only passive you won't be able to manage or take advantage of, but it may help you from time to time due to its nature as a free Captive Audience trap.

Managing your 4th hits is primarily about keeping your eye on who or what is low on health. With it doing %missing health damage, the best way to manage your Death in Four Acts and Curtain Call fourth shots is to try and hit low-health targets with them. Even if you don't hit your intended target (in the case of Curtain Call) or fail to execute someone/something (Death in Four Acts), you'll still have a firm grasp of what you're supposed to do with it.

The Passive of Deadly Flourish is always tantalizing to try and hit, but managing it is about knowing when it would be best to try and lock down your target. Are they close enough that aiming isn't a problem, they've blown their mobility, and are low health? Fire your Deadly Flourish and close in for your 3rd/4th shot. Are you just laning and haven't started trading yet? Hold it, save it for when your ally goes in or when you find a good opportunity.

-Synergy with Supports

Generally, Jhin excels when he has a Spotter of sorts to help him secure his assassinations. That being said, anyone with hard CC of some sort, usually ranged Catchers, Control Mages, or Disruptors (Rakan, Thresh, Bard, Morgana, Lux, just as examples) whose crowd control abilities he can capitalize on with Deadly Flourish.

That said, though, he also does well with Champions who can protect him from attackers, like Braum or Tahm Kench. Leona is sort of a 50/50 thing, because she can lock down targets for him, but her aggression still leaves him vulnerable.

-Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths;

  • Strong execute damage
  • Long range
  • Modest area control

Weaknesses;

  • Slow-moving
  • Slow-attacking
  • Brings unreliable CC to the table

Jhin may be a veritable damage threat, but his biggest weaknesses come in his ease of being picked off. Think of him like an Assassin sans the mobility; one well-placed CC ability, and Jhin is often done for.

What separates good Jhins from bad Jhins

For the most part, what separates good Jhin players from bad ones is positioning, usage of Captive Audience, usage of Dancing Grenade, and overall skillshot accuracy (whether or not you land Deadly Flourish and Curtain Call can make or break teamfights).

You can also spot bad Jhin players if they randomly dump 4th shots on enemy Champions every time, regardless of health. While your 4th shot is strong, it's at its strongest when your target is low-health, and that cannot be said enough.

It's a helluva lot to let sink in, but I hope it helps you out!
