Chat Restrictions: Unnecessary?

Riot:

There is a mute button. Why on earth would League of Legends need chat restrictions?

If I don't appreciate how someone is choosing to use their chat, I press mute. It's one click away. This is the first game I've ever encountered where the game treats its users like people who can't mute other people for themselves. Do the majority of League users honestly support the idea of chat restriction? I can't imagine the community is that uptight. This is a competitive game. Sometimes people get emotional. That's not a bad thing.

I find chat restrictions completely unnecessary and completely annoying. Why did you choose to implement chat restrictions over top of the in game mute functions?

There is being emotional and then there is calling your allies cancer and wishing a pox on their family. Whether it is too much or not, Riot doesn't want people insulting each other.

Why the hell we force non-toxic players to use mute button when we can auto mute the toxic player for them ?? "Instead of punishing the bad guy, we inform the good guy to use mute button"

and LoL isn't just competitive, it's e-sport, pros can't even chat /all for the sake of sport

if you need to mute someone that person is saying something you don't like. chat restrictions let them know that no one likes what they say and they either fix it or they are going to start losing out on chat and if it continues then they won't be able to play.

Do I think the system is perfect? no why? As you move higher up in elo there is a smaller pool of players so you run into the same players more often. This can lead to constant reporting if they don't like you for that one game. Also some things are taken too seriously and friendly banter can be taken wrong. But from the people on the forums that ask to see their chat logs I'd say all of them deserved it.
