@Riot Why is the 2017 Ranked Season starting so early this time?

Usually the preseason lasts around two and a half months to allow preseason changes to settle, give people downtime for Ranked, etc. I find it interesting that this time the preseason is very short. Is there nay particular reasoning for this?

Probably so people can use the christmas vacation to play together with friends and have it count towards their ranked progress.
