Riot's stance on Thresh's "Bonus Armor" [Passive] with new Last Whisper

Aezeraith··7 votes·4,665 views

Well, originally posted on PBE's forums earlier, Here, but it got ignored so here we are at live and the answer or stance still hasn't been stated [To my knowledge]

Thresh doesn't have a base armor growth like the other champions do, so with the way the new Last Whisper branch items work [Piercing 40% bonus armor] that pierces all but 16 of thresh's armor, which obviously means that the item is significantly more effective against Thresh than it is to other champions.

My question is, with this being a specific case against Thresh, is this oversight going to be revised? Or is it just, tough luck sorry unintended nerf?

Edit: Also to all the people saying "GOOD HES OP NERF" thats not the point of this thread, I'm not complaining if hes OP or to buff him, I just wanted to know if Riot was aware of this interaction.

Thresh being more vulnerable to the revised Last Whisper set of items is something we're aware of and watching, but not something we felt needed to be pre-emptively compensated for before the preseason release. So far Thresh seems to be in a fairly similar spot power wise post preseason changes, so for now at least we're going to continue monitoring him rather than feeling the need to make any changes.

I hope that includes nerfs, he's one of the most picked champs in the game and crowds out the entire support pool, a small amount of lost armour isn't going to fix that.

As much as I'd like seeing him nerfed a bit so other supports can shine, it'd be more fair to see how the preseason changes affect him.

What I'm saying is that if Riot's keeping an eye on him it should go both ways. If he continues to be as dominant as he has he should receive nerfs, and I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that he will.

Meddler even said "So far Thresh seems to be in a fairly similar spot power wise post preseason changes" IMO that was too powerful.

That's a fair point.

Can we address the issue of him being neither ranged of melee as of right now?

Thank you for your reply, I just wanted to know if it was an oversight or a known change / interaction is all.

considering that Thresh is the only champion in the game with this characteristic i'd say it's an unintended nerf and i doubt they will do much about it

Rito.... Overthink... Warlord keystone Tryndamere Yasuo hmmmm... Graves attack cone is fine right... Vayne lose her true damage, give her more %health damage...

I will say in riots defense that 125+ champs is a lot to balance around but a lot they did was a tad too much pandering to adcs and ad fighters.

I've been playing a lot of thresh recently and I don't think the changes to last whisperer will be too detrimental for thresh. A few thoughts:

•SAME AS IT EVER WAS. only one maybe two at most per team are likely to be built. In a heads up duel situation late game vs an ADC or top/JNG.. thresh was already unfavorable in most match ups.

•BE FLEXIBLE. I like to balance my thresh as per every game. Once in awhile I'll build dmg like a BOTRK, or Maw of Mal. You won't be any closer to killing Mundo, but your getting sustain and damage.

•DONT STRESS JUST BE THRESH. After early / mid game you might not be able to mix it up trading autos and such. STACKING ARMOR WONT remedy this now just like it didn't before. You need mobility, you need map awareness, you need your team. And let's be honest lucky skills shots or skilled luck shots. Hook flays under tower. Good engages. Lanterns. Bread and butter 101.

If you are the only tank yes the changes hurt. I'm thinking Ninja tab's, frozen heart are a decent fix for armor PEN. Dead mans plate to replace the mobi boots. All done.

TLDR. Don't gripe that the meta became unbalanced. Predict the Meta, change with the meta, trailblaze a new meta.

Thresh has been overpowered for a long time, any changes that can decrease his power, even slightly, are very much welcome.
