Help/Advice for (Somewhat) new player.

I've been playing LOL for 3 days now and I'm level 9. Even when I started I wasn't bad at the game, since I had a past history with DOTA 2 and Paladins. DOTA 2 was extremely complicated and toxic, so I only played with bots, hoping that I could improve enough to be able to play in a real match someday. I spent over 50 hours in bots, then, getting bored, I gave up on the game. Then I found LOL, a much better game. My experience from Dota allowed me to learn and advance in LOL quickly. I knew many basics already, such as ganking, last hitting, etc.

Here's where I need help.

In LOL I don't know much about the actual champions, their roles, their abilities, strategies, etc. I need some tips or some guidance for what champions I should pick in which situations, and I also need to know some answers to basic questions:

What does an AP Damage mean?

Who would be the best champion for someone like me? (I currently use Annie and Malphite as my "mains". I've been getting S ranked grades with Malphite, so he's really good, and any advice for him would be appreciated. I normally don't main in any game, rather I choose any character based on the circumstances, but I don't have enough IP to be able to purchase more champions. I have 1072 after purchasing Annie and Malphite, but if I have to buy a new champion that costs 1350 I can play enough to get that champion.)

What are the roles in LOL? (I heard stuff like tanker, top laner, mid laner, bottom laner, jungler, etc. I know some of this stuff, but not all of it. And the stuff I do know is kind of incomplete.)

Which champions of LOL are currently in the meta and extremely powerful?

Which champions of LOL should I not play as?

I don't have any friends that play LOL, so can you suggest any champions that are good as solo? (It is rare for me to experience a friendly player who actually listens and cooperates. I experience a player like that one every 5 games or so. Which means that most of my games are gonna be bad if I rely on the rest of my team. I don't mean a champion that is OP in 1v1 and horrible in team fights. I mean a champion that can hold his own with enough damage and durability while being able to help the team at the same time in a team fight, because from experience, a team fight happens basically every game, and if I'm not ready for that then it could lead to a loss. Annie is amazing in 1v1 and can even survive in 2v1 under some circumstances but isn't that effective in team fights.)

There might be some more things that I might not know about LOL, but I'll learn that along the way, as I advance and gain more experience. For now I need to complete my basic knowledge.

For meta champs you can look fat the website op.gg to see winrates. Annie & malphite are good beginner champs. There's the marksman & support in the bot lane, an assassin or make in the mid lane, & a tank in the top lane. Jungle is the most diverse role as almost anyone can go there. Ap means ability power which can be countered by buying magic resist. Hope this helps some. Friend me in league & I can help you more if you need it.

I don't think I can friend you as there would be ping problems (Due to different regions) but thanks for the answer. I forgot to mention in my post, what is cs?

What does an AP Damage mean?

AP = ability power AD = attack damage

There is physical and magic damage ( a lot of people call magic damage AP damage for whatever reason) . Some abilities scale with AP ( more AP = more damage/shield/whatever) , others scale with AD.

So there are abilities that deal magic damage but scale with AD and vice versa.

You shouldn't really bother with that but there are a lot of sites with tier lists. Just play free rotation champions and see who you like.

In LOL I don't know much about the actual champions, their roles, their abilities, strategies

Usually there is an mage/assassin MID , tank/fighter TOP , tank/fighter/assassin JUNGLE , a marksman and a support BOT .

The marksman is the main source of DPS ( I guess you know what the others are lol)

Annie is amazing in 1v1 and can even survive in 2v1 under some circumstances but isn't that effective in team fights

Annie IS good in teamfights , just search up some guides for her

You see the problem is Meta is good and bad. You see the same pool of champions every game, but it's bad because when you fight a champion not in the meta people fuck up and constantly die and bitch this guy is OP. My main suggestion is find a type of role you enjoy. Play them all and find which type of play style you like. Once that happens find a champion you enjoy and then go to OP.GG and look at their builds. You don't need to fallow the meta so much since there are people who got to Diamond and think there are a few Challenger Signed player and that guy hasn't been meta since like season 1. Also idk if you know but OTP are One Trick Ponies.

AP = Ability Power. It's used for spells that deal Magic Damage. They will be tealish text.

All the 450 Champions are good.

All that you really need to understand is that you want to try to spread out your dmg between Attack Damage (AD) and Ability Power (AP). Mages and Warriors. Most any composition can work out, you just gotta get more familiar with the overall strategy of a lot of champions (some like to fight groups of targets, others isolated targets, etc)

Fuck the meta. It changes on the whims of pro players who only sorta know what they are talking about.

All the champions are good. In general, if a champion's page ranks them as very complicated, avoid them.
