As a Jungler what do you expect from laners?

One thing I often find is laners always pushing making it very hard for jg to help them. Other than this, what are some things that will make it easier for jungler to gank/help laners/bring out maximum impact- like "clear vision" or "engage before gank" sort of things.

  1. As you mentioned clearing and giving vision
  2. Engaging is correct but it really depends on the situation and who is holding the cc.
  3. Wave management. If you're gonna tell me "my lane is pushing now come gank" and i look and theres 3 waves crashing into your turret im probably not going to gank and junglers that do gank are screwing you over to benefit themselves. Ill explain why A. You lose out on alot of exp if the gank stretches to the end of the lane especially in the outside lanes. B. he kill is worth the same amount as the 3 waves of cs (actually 3 waves are worth more) C. If the opponent knows how to fight inside in the minion wave it could tun into his advantage. D. If the enemy jungler is around its an auto loss fight and pretty much ends your lane. 4.Ping summoners especially flash but dont be that guy thats like "HEY JUNGLE HIS FLASH IS DOWN COME GANK"
  4. Jungle tax: the laners' greed which stops a jungler from ever coming back to your lane. Allow the jungle to take 3 cs from a wave and help you push the wave in. He doesnt need the entire wave but just 3 cs is good. On successful ganks of course (flash burned or if laner gets kill)
  5. Wave management #2: Make sure you manage your wave so that it will be pushing towards you as your jungler is pathing to camps by your lane.
  6. If your jungler is NEAR your lane, ping for assistance you'll be surprised how often we'll respond to it. Just 1 or 2 pings tho and make sure you know exactly how the gank will play out to go in your favor. Because if you ping him and the gank fails due to terrible execution he probably wont come back to your lane.
  7. When you have priority in your lane, be active, for the love of God dont just sit there watching your opposing laner farm under his turret make a play with me on the map. It opens so many options.
  8. Ping if you wanna dive a laner because theyre low or you can tank tower or switch aggro (elise repel or stopwatch or master yi Q).
  9. Dont bitch about being ganked 3 times while only getting 1 gank. Its most likely because you opened yourself up 3x more than your opposing laner did.
  10. Be understanding, if theres an infernal drake up and you're top dont think im gonna gank your lane until ive secured it for our team or its not in any threat of being lost if i go top.
  11. Know how to set up the gank, dont just walk up and make it obvious, and at the same time dont just dump your cc on them immediately, only put your cc down once your jungler shows on their screen before that they're still deciding if theyre gonna be ganked or not, so save yourr cc for when they starrt running.
  12. If you're 0/2 and lost 2 1v1s against them dont expect to get jungle help, you lost when you were even, itll take 2 ganks for the jungler to get you back to even and if you lost it once you could lose it again. Committing 3 successful ganks to a lane to give it a chance of winning is difficult and 1 counter gank can end the game.
  13. If you have flash up, flash on them and cc them if you have to. Dont make it a chasing game to see if you have more movespeed to catch up. I dont know how many times i see malzahars and lissandra's trying to save flash and make the gank significantly more difficult when it couldve been over at a flash ult move.
  14. Dont flash for the kill if its already secured we could use that flash to set up another gank on them to benefit even more, like i said earlier keep the greed out of it.

That they will always disappoint me.

I play a lot of Nunu and Hecarim, ergo the typical advice of "clear out vision" or "start the fight for me" or "let them push in" doesn't really matter because powergankers like Nunu and Hecarim can easily force a gank even despite all of the above. Besides that, those little one line tips don't really do anything if your fundamentals are just plain bad.

I expect you to take my presence and snowball it into something meaningful. When I gank your lane and get a kill 3 times over, I don't care if I took the kill or not, you should be winning lane at that point especially if you're playing a stronger laning champ than the opponent. When I help you break down the tower, I expect you to rotate to a different lane and break another tower. When we pull off a successful gank really early into the game, you are helping me and I am helping you reset your lane so you get a freeze, making it easier for me to gank and easier for you to snowball a CS lead. Stop pinging me and crying about lost CS. If your laner is sitting in my Jungle, I expect you to help me or shove your lane.

Macroplay. Those "little tips" that you're asking for don't mean anything because if laners had good macro, they'd already be implementing those tips or they won't need them. Despite this, and despite how much people like to complain about the impact of the Jungle role in games, it just seems like nobody knows what to do with what their Jungler gives them. I expect laners to understand the basic fundamentals of the early to mid game, and they're always disappointing.

i merely expect them to react to river skirmishes(if theyre in position to do so), and to collapse on bot/mid lane(when its possible). They typically dont. atleast half of Laners havent adapted to the game shifting from Laners being dependent on Junglers, to Junglers being dependent on Laners.

I've learned not to expect anything from laners, but if I were to prefer anything, it would be in no particular order:

  • It'd be nice if they did spot some wards, whether it be the enemy laner going near a brush for a split second. Saves a lot of time if they just tell you there's a control ward or even just a regular ward that's not convenient for them to clear rather than finding out by yourself after wasting time walking all the way to the edge of the river
  • If they had some CC of their own, ganking for CC-less or even CC-free laners is pretty discouraging
  • An at least basic sense of player psychology for baiting if possible, for instance moving towards bottom side brush to get the enemies to position closer to the river
  • Understanding that some lane opponents are just not worth ganking (e.g. Heimerdinger or Teemo after level 6). I'm sorry if you're losing lane, but if its too risky to gank, you're gonna have to learn/know how to get carried. Some champions are designed to have you play a very specific way which can be annoying, but there's very little you can do about it

None of these are absolute gank-makers or gank-breakers, but would be highly preferred and greatly appreciated by any jungler for sure.

Get a general idea of what junglers want to do in a game, and then do your best to support them.

  1. Jungler looking to invade? Start pushing to get priority and go roam
  2. Jungler looking to gank? Set up a freeze/hold wave in the center
  3. Ward enemy jungler's camps
LTK KoRo9/20/2019, 8:08:33 AM2 votes

i expect nothing from them tbh, not because "hurr durr laners BAD", just because with every lane position something can be done. Junglers aren't primary carries right now, so instead of laners playing around you, you need to play around laners positioning

Laner is hard pushing? Try to set up a dive, wait for countergank, set up a lane gank, or go for some counterjungling Laner is getting pushed? We can try to do a normal gank. Laner is in the middle on the lane? Normal gank, or try to get vision control in river/near enemy jungle entrances.

Obviously you're going to have some bad eggs who will push 24/7 without vision and complain about not getting any ganks, but i guarantee you, no matter how would you play around these, they would still whine. As a jungler, you cannot help all the laners anyway (unless a miracle happened and you're strongest player in the game)

As a laner i only expect them not to throw my lane yet they still manage to disappoint me :(

hewhodoesnotcare9/20/2019, 7:49:14 PM2 votes

Not to have all three lanes lose before u get to my second camp or to my second buff

PepeTheBusDriver9/20/2019, 7:29:02 PM2 votes

My top 4 are:

  1. Take responsiblity for your own lane and LEARN HOW TO NOT DIE. In all respects -- getting ganked has nothing to do with me, getting killed as nothing to with me, no vision has nothing to do with me. I'm not a babysitter for your incapable ass.

  2. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not run up to the enemy when I ping I'm going to gank. I'm an Evelynn main and LAWD it grindrs my gears when I - an INVISIBLE CHAMP WITH HARD CC - get to the lane and the lane has pushed the enemy back to their tower. Now I've wasted time when. I could be getting exp.

  3. Tell me if the laner has flash. Idgaf about other sums, but flash is super important. You see you laner all the time, you should know.

  4. THE MOST ANNOYING THING: I continually have the highest vision score out if the entire team until like 30 minutes until the support starts to clear wards. Laners have got to start putting wards and clearing pinks. It's SO EASY to buy a 75g pink ward or even spend 150g on two. I know you're not gonna spend that gold on anything else, hoe.

FioraWillCarry9/21/2019, 12:15:00 PM2 votes

I will give an arm and a leg for laners to actually understand how to lane. Even as high as Gold, people still don't know how to lane correctly. Laners need to learn how lane priority works, minion advantage, slow pushes, fast pushes, how to reset and how to freeze. They need to learn how to trade, when to trade, when to let opponents push, how to last hit under tower. Laners that go 0-5 before the lane phase ends do not know how to lane at all. Laners that get camped by the enemy jungler, don't know how to lane at all.

Dale Wardark9/21/2019, 12:50:48 PM2 votes

If you're complaining that I'm not ganking, it's probably because I'm behind or you're pushed up in lane constantly and that's why you're dying. I adore tank jungles, but they definitely have lower clear times than damage jungles before a cinderhulk (or tiamat on a few) which means if I'm constantly having to babysit lanes pre-six, I'm behind most of the game. On that note, if your team is doing well later game, lanes are pushing, and your Jungle is a level below most everyone on the team, don't take jungle farm if it's not red or blue. It's infuriating being half an item down on your team because you're letting them take kills when you gank while they're also taking your farm because they think they don't have anything better to do.

Illabethe9/21/2019, 3:43:13 PM2 votes

Here's my problem:

#When I lane, I simply don't exist to junglers. I can be mid..... under my own turret for 18-19 minutes straight..... and the jungler doesn't even cross my path. The other team's Hecarim and Lee Sin, ofc are..... and are happy to assist their mid in turret sniping me.

Or..... when a jungler does come, they come from MY SIDE, have no gap closers, fail every single gank, and then as compensation, clear 4-5 of my waves, stealing my cs, putting me behind, and giving the opponent freeze pressure.

#When I'm jungling: I'm equal opportunity to all lanes, irregardless of how they push. I'm generally a nonmeta jungler, so my picks actually work fine when the opponent is overpushed and under their own turret.

What I DO expect: -Do NOT try to help me with Drake 90% of the time. Most laners tell the opposing team exactly what is going on at drake, simply by walking/running to it to help. I specifically time objectives to where the opposing jungler cannot reach them in time to stop me, so when they flag laners of what I'm doing, that really pisses me off, especially when it's something like a Talon/Zed/Xerath/Caitlyn who take no risk in trying to snipe me.

-If I am pinging a gank, respond to it. Don't make the judgement that there are too many minions in the way; I plan my ganks AROUND minions (Junglers are generally more successful at sneaking up for ganks when a wave of aggro minions is possible, because laners feel safer from ganks). If you do NOT respond, you not only wasted my time, you potentially killed me, set me behind XP/gold opportunities, and generally told me you're an unskilled player, so I have no incentive to help YOU the rest of the game. (So don't go crying for assistance when you fubar my secured kills had you acted). P.S. **Assistance doesn't mean letting me tank all damage for 5-6 seconds before you try to secure the kill. **

-If I am getting invaded, ping a gank to enclose on the jungler (who generally is easy to triangulate) I expect laners to actually react. No. Don't bring your opposing laner with you when you come to kill the invader; But if your opposing laner is in a bad position to follow, or out of lane, FRIGGIN COME. By not coming, you're feeding my opponent free farm, deficiting my XP, making me less effective, probably giving them drake priority/herald priority. All of which are no-nos.

-Clear opponent Control wards.

Overpowered busted role meets inflated egos-->the thread.

Zed genius9/20/2019, 12:06:25 PM1 votes

I expect nothing from my laners anymore. At some point you just give up hoping they will do anything

Hi im 129/20/2019, 12:39:24 PM1 votes

well I expect them to int but I would like em to play like actual human beings that know their champion better than I do.

heroikc9/20/2019, 3:24:32 PM1 votes

Conversely, I expect them to help secure my half at least if invaded and help minimize enemy control when possible.

Lovelle9/20/2019, 6:15:52 PM1 votes

To not feed 2-3 kills in the first 5 minutes.

Flawless Fetus9/21/2019, 1:00:23 AM1 votes

What do I expect? Them to ignore my pings and feed. What do I hope for? People that have eyes and are capable of collapsing.
