My Right About Everything Thread
So, around March I predicted the AD itemization changes partly:
The AD itemization has been off the mark of the future I foresaw, where ADC's would be allowed to choose cool things like Maw, BT, or Stormrazor as their first item, and other types of "Slowball" carries (Yasuo, Cassiopeia) would slowly migrate to botlane. Instead, Riot made it so that it was virtually not worthwhile to draft a marksman, and the pace of the game makes attack speed simply impossible to stack with expensive critical modifiers. The Riot Pendulum works at least.
But it seems like an Unpopular Opinion - Mages being bot lane can only be good for this game.
We have been locked into a world where nobody thinks. Before you entered the game, you knew you would be with:
One of three marksman with heal One of five supports with exhaust Zed or yasuo One of five assassins or tanks with smite One of three tanks or bruisers with teleport
Alright? This has been two or three years where this has almost NOT CHANGED AT ALL. This game has so many champions, that something like this is vomit inducing. Blame meta, blame pro play, blame riot, but really it's only your fault. Yes, you. Every time you started to get out the caps lock because somebody wanted to play X in Y spot, you caused the game to be worse.
BUT NOW! Now we have a world where bruisers and assassins are viable in almost all roles, mages are viable in all positions (need more jungle AP viability but we're closer) and tanks... well they're still doing their thing by not being played at all in solo q, but overall still totally effective at their jobs. The problem is when one class struggles, the whole game struggles. It's an ecosystem. We need carries to do good.
Problem One: we just buffed mage itemization, now we went and nerfed ADC itemization too far. Undo some of those marksman item nerfs?
Problem Two: Damage Creep? Check that off the list, no need to say more.
Problem Three: Runes introduced too much. Everything too much. It's not possible to balance this game anymore.
What is the purpose of choosing what stats certain champions have if you get to muddle everything up?
What's the point of designing a champion's kit if it can be negated by, or relies upon, an item or rune? If the numbers that make up it's combos can be totally skewed?
Suddenly you're balancing a champion to consider them more than 3000g in the hole (Carries, Viktor, Trinity force users) before they can play the game, with some guarantee that the weakness of their gameplay before that (if it even is weak) is outweighed by having an absurdly bolstered power curve (if they even are stronger than other champions using their gold optimally). Then throw a spanner in that by allowing some a free lane with one keystone, or some to circumvent buying MS with predator, or granting a champion whose poke you previously nerfed to return to a busted state. Can't fix the champions itemization dependancy, the keystone, the lane, the late game, nothing. There's no vacuum where Riot can say "this causes this problem" they can't even change one thing better without making ten things worse. What's so pathetic is they made this house of cards, at every turn, with GREAT ENTHUSIASM. Now look around and be like "huh where did our meta go?"
I liked watching games where two baller team comps would go up against each other, or a mismatch of 1-3-1 vs teamfight where the map was always split, both teams edging out their own advantages and racing to objectives. Ardent Meta provided us with top notch objective play: Clean initiations and vision control, since the first 30 minutes of the game didn't matter. The Meta now has left us with NO WAY of planning for the 30 minute mark. Despite that esport money pushing the game towards more aggression, the game has never been so non interactive, because the moments when fights happen are just moments, then everything after that, one team is just CRUSHING IT and the other team just has to pretend they are playing the game. The state of league is the worst it's ever been, at a time when we should have reached a pinnacle of both availability AND depth, currently LoL has neither.
