Hey guys I had an issue come up earlier regarding how climbing works. From what I've understood you are supposed to better yourself, stay positive (ideally literally), and focus on objectives and working with your team.

Now this is all well and good, I am attempting all these things...however I am at a loss as to what to do in situations where my support leaves and reconnects consistently, my jungle mid and top lane are doing poorly and I'm forced to stay bot and defend tower :/

I'm of the opinion that perhaps while in most cases yes, you should carry games. You should focus on improvement, but I don't believe that you can single handedly make up for 4 people not at all trying to do so.

Thoughts?

Hey so honestly I am sure there is a lot you can improve on just like there is a lot I can improve on. Not sure if you want any advice but this is what I noticed this year, which has helped me rank 3 accounts out of silver. Keep in mind I am also low elo and make tons of mistakes, but these few adjustments helped me get past silver 2 and more consistently into gold elo.

  1. I have done it playing 3 different roles, first was support on this account. Not going to really talk about it since your not a support main and to be honest don't really know if I did anything significant or not.

  2. So, as playing jungle and adc this is what I noticed. In silver, people start to become familiar with laning phase but after 20 minutes the game turns into a free for all. Ideally winning lane helps you win the game, but a lot of players in low elo don't seem to know what to do after laning phase or how to play if they lose lane. For example, it looks like you get a lot of kills a game when you get a lead. That is great. Maybe you are just that more mechanically skilled than the people you are playing against or they just don't know how to play from behind. So really getting through silver is all about using that lead to snowball games and learning to play from behind and learning to get carried. Surrendering is a bad idea since people don't know how to end and throwing is common. I have won a lot of close games this year just by staying calm and confident.

Although your kills in some games look great, your average cs levels are fairly low. Now... I suck at csing so no judgement, just an observation. I reached gold spamming ezreal on my alt as adc so I think its a good pick. The problem I have when playing ezreal is csing in lane. I am just not that comfortable using his auto attacks. I noticed that through mid silver to gold I was not getting a ton of kills, but I was able to maintain a 60% win rate by playing passive in lane and staying alive in the late game. I used his blue build with frost fist so I could basically kite for myself late game. So if you play adc you have to learn positioning and when to fight and when to bail. There are videos and other sources that teach this and I am not great at it but if you die late game early in a team fight your team is most likely going to lose the fight and lose the game.

Learning to rotate is really important. If you win lane hard you want to push bot but then look for an opportunity to rotate mid and help push mid and then maybe take dragon/baron or other objectives. At the same time you need to look for lanes that need covering. I started noticing in silver players fail to cover lanes. Like there will be lanes pushing bot and mid and my team will group mid to save mid, but no one will rotate bot. If you see your team can protect mid, instead of blinding following first go bot and clear the waves to get the lane pushing before grouping with team. Same goes for top. After laning phase there are no more lanes. If you see your mid back and mid lane is pushing go cover mid. If your teammate smart he will head bot, if not then you can go bot while they cover mid. Same goes for top. Also get used to focusing on clearing waves when enemy is pushing. If you kill minions then enemy cannot siege without tower diving.

Silver jungles are generally really poor at balancing farming and ganking. (Don't get me wrong so am I but I notice I can outplay the average silver jungle by just straight up out farming them and gaining more experience/levels). One thing I learned this year is farming in jungle is important. That is why you see people get great kda's in jungle but still not get S mastery rank. What a lot of players fail to realize is even though they had a lot of kills or assists, their farm was shit. So for jungle its kind of the same thing as laning like you want to clear as many camps as you can but also look for opportunities to gank for kills assist. Then really just using your lead to counter jungle and take dragons. Also helping push lanes and cover lanes while your teammate backs is important.

I realize this is really random and all over. I just became really confident playing ranked in silver elo this season and noticed I can stay ahead in farm and rotating compared to my average opponent allowing me to win more games. I am still bad, but the few things I mentioned have helped me grow as a player and play at a slightly higher skill level more often. Hopefully this was helpful, if not my apologies.

Your not going to win every game its just reality. So the goal is to do all of those things you listed and learn from games. Sometimes the games are unwinnable, but if you do everything in your power to try and win and improve you should be able to continue to climb the ladder.

Like right now I am struggling to climb the ladder in gold. Why? Because the people I play with or against are a similar skill level as me and I am not good enough to out play people consistently and need help from my team. So that is kind of how ranks work. Like someone who is able to play at a diamond 3 level is going to win a lot more games than they lose if playing in gold since they play at a much higher average skill level than the players around them. Equally, if I jumped into a bronze game I would win a lot more games than I lose. Even with a teammate d/cing, there would be a good amount of games where I would be able to have a large impact on the game and win the game for my team even in 4v5 situations. This is based on many prior experiences and playing ranked for many years.

So the goal is to try and carry and play your best each game while keeping a level head and learning from mistakes. But even pros drop games in lower elos just because they make some mistakes or their team too heavy to carry.

Thank you all so much for the advice. If by any chance you'd be willing to play with me I'd be more than happy to. Maybe you could teach me a few more things along the way as we play :)
