I hit lvl 30 not too long ago and it sucks....

First off let me say that i just hit lvl 30 and i am not that good. I am decent and i was winning around 45-50% of my matches pre lvl 30. Now that i hit it i am constantly bieng outplayed and flat out dominated by people that have won over 500 games when i have only played 400 in total. This happens every single game. Its getting a bit discouraging. I am not having the fun i used to have. Why is league soloq'ing me with much more experienced players. It just seems unfair. I find myself getting more mad now. I didn't intend to make this a complaint thread but i honestly dont know what to do. I feel useless against these vastly better players.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I guess my question is how do i go about this. How does matchmaking work? I know i need to get better and i will. I always point out my weaknesses and work on them. Thanks again

I had the same problem when I hit 30. I was frustrated for a week or two, with the constant losses. Then I thought to myself "I want to get better, right? Well, if I keep playing people better than me, I will get better." And I did. You said yourself you're trying to improve. Keep at it, you'll get there.

As for how matchmaking works, you have your internal MMR (match making rating) and the system tries to match people near your MMR. These people with over 500 wins might have similar MMR to you. Or not. The system gets wonky sometimes, where you'll have a bunch of unbalanced games. This is more prevalent in ranked. But what basically happens is you win a bunch of games in a row. Your MMR goes up too much, and you get placed against people better than you. You start losing games, your MMR drops. Then it usually balances out to where your skill level is guessed to be.

It's not a perfect system by any means. Most people hate it. But that's how it works. I just kinda roll with it. I can't control matchmaking. I can't control who I play with/against. But I can control my champion and decisions.

I think your facing what I call a skill gap misplacement. It's basically when the system's MMR decides when you are at a skill level that you are not, and thus some one sided games happen. I'm afraid I don't have much better advice to give from what you have read but I will say this. Everyone that has made it somewhere in League has hit that same point, and your focus right now shouldn't be on winning or losing. If your aim to to get better asap, then do as I'm sure lots of people have said. Watch streams, take notes from better players, see what other players are doing in your games that are winning them the game. If your aim is just to have fun, then I don't think there's a reason to get mad. Think of it like this: if you want to have fun, then why does the win actually matter? In any case, I believe that either way you look at it and choose to go, I have faith you'll get better over time.

Yours,

Reverbe

I watch quite a lot of streamers that are better. I have learned so much and i am getting better every day. I am learning from mistakes and trials. I just wAnt to learn and play better against people that are on my skill lvl. Im just gonna hope the mmr sorts itself out after a while. In the meantime i will learn and practice against the better players.

Couldn't this happen in reverse? From me it is typically the opposite. I have over 700 normal wins while my team mates will sometimes have wins as low as 130. Not sure why this would happen. Note: This skill gap happens in ranked. Makes it difficult to climb.

You might have a better MMR than normal level 30 players. MMR meaning basically how good you are.

I have been getting better ever since i downloaded the game. Significantly even recently but i am not asking people to tell me to get better. Do you want to know why? Because i know i need too. I have been getting matched with players that have way more game experience then me when it should be equal. Some very nice people have kindly answered why that is and told me my mmr will balance itself out. Those are the kind of responses that instill hope into someone. Everyone knows they need to get better. Even you.

no, your misconception is that you think you need to play of equal skill level to get get better, this is simple not true. maybe it is harder and more frustrating for you to keep on losing, but I am sure you are learning more by playing against them, then if you where playing against the same skill level.

You are apparently already doing what you need to do. Identify where you mess up and work on it. Youtube has a vast repository on how to get better at league, pros have streams. Watch them...find out what they are doing that you are not or not doing that you are and work on those things. And above all else, just keep playing in normals and learn what the champions do. Half of the laning phase is understanding what your champ can and can not do AND what the enemy laner can and can not do...experience is the best teacher. Keep your head up and keep working on it.

I don't know what you can do about it in your normal games, but here's my tip: Play ranked.

Play ranked a lot, every season the elo gets a soft reset and you get a new chance if you think you screwed up. After the first 10 games you will be matched with people around your skill level and it will all be over. Downside is that people take ranked more seriously which causes more stress and thus arguements.

hope you have good games in the future!

No...don't play ranked. Play more normals upgrade how many champion you play. Get a good selection of runes. Once you feel confident, play normal drafts. You never want to go to rank at lv 30 unless you intend to lose to even more tryhard comps or serious ragers.

I played lot of normals. when I hit 30 i didn't start rank til a year later. My friends who have played the game more than 2 years than me are stuck in silver and bronze Im in gold. Gold isn't a huge accomplishment. My point is, learn the game and its champions 1st and you will have better success. It may not be the best in the world but it sure as hell may not be Bronze.

I dont play ranked and haven't even tried it. People are toxic and crazy on blind pick. I cant imagine how bad it can get on ranked games. I have 4 champs that i am comfortable with but im always expanding. I just wanna play with people on my lvl of skill. I guess the mmr needs to find a balance. From what i read it may take a week or 2. Ill ride out the storm and concentrate on getting better in the meantime.

djjomon1 votes

Play ranked eventually. Don't worry about it now. Expand your champ pool to have 2-3 in each role you're comfortable on first. And finish rune pages.

This happened to me and a friend. We think that it gives you a MMR that's middle of the pack, and that you have to drop down to "n00b" mmr levels. That happened to us about 30-40 games in, and things started looking up. Play for fun, find the champs you like, and stay in normals until you're comfortable with your mmr there before even considering ranked.

r u retarded? you are playing with those people for a reason which is your W/L ratio is same as theirs. So if you are getting dominated then just l2p the game better or just accept it till you play with the people your supposed 2 if u honestly cant get better

KGBcommunist1 votes

No i am not retarded it was just a concept of the game that i didn't fully understand. Maybe you don't get the fact that a person with over 800 games played will have a better understanding of the game than i do regardless of there W/L ratio bieng similar to mine. Thanks for your insight though and thanks to everyone that has responded. I will ride this storm out.

its pretty clear a guy with over 800 games doesn't have a better understanding than you if his clearly being put in the same game as you

What the hell kind of comment is this? how is this useful in any way to the OP? You come in here and try to insult him while using words like "r u" in your insult. Get the hell out of here we don't need toxic brats like you.

I had this problem myself. At the end of the day, we all have areas to improve as players. Don't look at it as a loss and more of a learning experience. There are so many layers to this game and ways to improve. Don't give up, hang in there, and you will see those improvements. Don't rush into ranked. Play every champion at least once and master at least one champ for every role. Good luck! Welcome to the big boys~

May I ask which role you favor, and which position you typically play at?

Swollwonder1 votes

All I can say is. Live with it. Sorry. For me its the other end of the shoe. I have over 700 wins and i get paired with people who have a measly 124 who feed. You just have to play with what you get.

KGBcommunist1 votes

And its not that persons fault whats so ever. He shouldnt be in a game with you in the first place. You literally just proved my point even more. Would you also say you have a better understanding of the game then the said feeder? Im sure of it.

ShockRock1 votes

Well, first you have to figure out where you are doing badly. Is it your laning phase/ability to farm? Is it your role in teamfights? Is your ganks if you jungle? Is it that you are ignorant and still lacking knowledge on champions? With figuring out the specific problem, that will help you focus on what you need to fix. If I were you, play safer champions with solid escapes like ez or tristana so your mistakes are more forgivable

Despite every other thing that people complain about on a regular basis on this site, I think the single worst thing about this game is the matchmaking, and if you think about it, bad matchmaking can be linked to a number of other problems the game has.

Trídent1 votes

There's a lot of people with level 30, so you get matched with weird matchups early on, but then eventually you get matched with people at your skill level, or around. To get better, watching pros play the champions you main can be very helpful.

For some reason, after watching Faker play Veigar, I went on a 11 game win-streak ;-; Also, you could search things up on the league wiki

Edit: Also, look up guides about your champion, read em Get the masteries and runes needed for your champ, don't grab random runes like gold, ap, ad, cd, pen etc. all in 1 page

Bijorn1 votes

As stated previously, everyone hits this weird gap in skill levels. Multiple times.

Are you playing ranked specifically or normals?

Besides the advice given already like watching streamers and such, I would suggest picking just a few champions and really try to master them. The more you understand about a specific champ the better you can be in lane, teamfights, knowing your matchups, etc. It will allow you to focus more on the map and your teammates/when to roam and things of that nature. Sorry if this was already suggested, I didnt want to read everything lol.

When you get level 30 you get moved from the kiddie pool to the big pool. Match making is going to take a while to adjust for you but eventually you will get back to the point where you're winning half your games.

Skia Asteri1 votes

Whatever method they use to determine how your pre-30 match making rating fits into the rating scale used post-30 is pretty bad. Once you play enough games, you will be playing against people of your own skill level.

Without playing while the skill gap is present, the best way to improve so it is not as hard is to research how to play better. Things like lane match ups, what different champions do, how to harass and trade damage, when baron/dragon spawn and the length of their respawn timer ect.

KGBcommunist1 votes

This is going to sound incredibly newbish but one reason i was loosing so often was because my runes and masteries were not appropriately selected. I like playing nasus top. I researched him online and found a guide on moba called unkillable nasus. It has literally changed so much since i did it. Now i realize how important those 2 things are Furthermore i realized that no matter what i will always have some bad games. Instead of getting mad over it i accept it and move on. I guess alot of the pressure i had was not letting my teammates down.

Anyway thanks for responding guys. Reading some of your posts really helped me understand the system more.

ZephyrDrake1 votes

you are not being matched by anyone who you weren't being matched before. You even said yourself that before lvl 30 you were losing more than you were winning but now it's a bad thing because... you improve and get better at the game. People learn the game at different rates and things that some might take 20 games to fully understand some people would take that many games just to even start to grasp the concept of whatever they are trying to learn.

JustGotFired

Spam Ranked. After you get used to the initial stress, its pretty fun. Normals doesn't provide the same feeling of domination as rank does because once you're ahead, you secure it.

TotalJerk1 votes

Ranked almost seems like it was designed from the ground up to be generate stress.

I like to play kpop on low, it relaxes me, while i ranked.
