Part of The Problem
I am a mid level Gold tier player, and have had to take my lumps over 2 seasons of learning (really learning) this game. Fighting through Bronze ,despite going 8-2 in my placements for Season 4, drudging through Silver and eventually getting into Gold, floating up and down between 1-4. Now here I am, a fairly seasoned League player, enjoying myself immensely with the new changes but still finding myself upset at the end of the day. Why? Because of the community. The toxicity level of this game is so far beyond anything I could ever imagine for a video game, it's horrifying and depressing, and at times makes me reconsider logging in to the game I love. I write this article not to vent at the trolls of the game (you know who you are, or at least should know) but at the people who DON'T report flamers, and trolls, and generally toxic players. YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM, possibly worse than the trolls themselves. You condone poor behavior by thinking it's not worth your time to take 15 seconds to write a report to someone who truly deserves it because it didn't affect your team. It will happen to you, and you will be mad, and you will report them then, but by not doing it to everyone that truly deserves it, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. Riot cannot sit and monitor game by game to see who is being a jerk and who is an angel in game. And they can't always take our word that someone is being toxic because you were on tilt and decided to report someone that made you mad because they played poorly. They CAN however see your reports stack up on the true offenders of the Summoner's Code. 32+million people play this game, Riot can't be on everyone all the time so it's up to us to try to make the community better. It saddens me I tell my friends not to get into League because the community is so toxic, learning the game at this stage in it's life isn't worth the headaches of being harassed for being a noob, and told to kill yourself once every 2-3 games. So when you start to tilt, see a teammate on tilt, or even your duo queue teammate, stop and think about what that's doing to the game as a whole, and not to mention your chances of winning. It's not worth it for many, many reasons, and only hurts the League in the long run. Report the people that deserve it and over time things will change, and hopefully all of our attitudes will as well.
