@Riot: Please Consider a small Quality of Life Change...

I know this is very low priority, but I'm hoping someone at Riot will see this and consider proposing to the design team that SOMETHING be done. It's not a huge issue, but a little tweak to Sion's ult would be really nice. Let me explain:

I'm deaf. My sister told me that Sion's ult plays a sound when he starts it, which I assume is to warn players that he could be coming and they might want to seek safety. The problem is, I can't hear that sound. So there is no indication that I could be in trouble until a Sion comes flying out of the fog of war at warp speed and slams into me before I can react. Having played against a Sion jungle the other day, I have to say that it was extremely frustrating. I asked my team to spam ping me when they heard the sound, but I can't expect other players to take the time to warn me that way. They tried, but in the middle of a team fight, they didn't always have the time to give me a heads-up that Sion was about to fly into the fray.

I honestly don't know what the right fix would be. But some VISUAL indicator of a Sion's ult would be a nice quality of life change. I'd even be happy with the game automatically pinging the enemy team with "!" pings, or something in chat like "Sion may be coming". A visual indicator like a red border around the edge of the screen would be nicer, but SOMETHING would be good. Not just for deaf players like me, but even for people who play while listening to music or whatever else might cause someone to mute their game.

Please consider it. Thank you.

Wow. You are the most considerate person I have ever met. Honestly. The fact that you take the time to include others in your text that involves something that you can't even experience... just, wow. I have no words for how that struck me. You are a beautiful human being.

Hmm, I'm not a UX designer so I won't pretend I know what a good solve to this would actually look like. I'm sure there's more people than just you that experience this, so it could definitely be worth looking into. We also tend to use global sounds for several of the important cues in game, so it's something you'd experience on several champion abilities I'd imagine.

Again, I have absolutely no idea what a good solution would look like here, but I'll see if I can get some visibility on this with the right people. This may have been something talked about internally before that I just haven't heard of. Thanks for the heads up!

They could do something like the effect if nocturne but to a lesser extent. And also for Kled cause the warning is an audio queue

they should make the earth tremble...

Perhaps a large ripple in the air, kind of like the effect on Garen's ult.

The red border seems unlikely for me, since Warwick already has that visual marker for his bloodhunt. We have to keep in mind that these notifications have to be distinct from one another, to let people notice which one is happening right now. But I definitely agree with you that some kind of extra indicator would be great.

With that in mind, the best solution in my opinion is to give us a box in the options for text notifications. What do I mean with that? If you played Corki, you know that you get a text notification in the top left corner of the screen that your package is ready for use. If you check this box, they could give such textes for these global announcements as well.

I could imagine a blinking text in the corner stating "War is coming.... Sion is coming...." to warn you of his impact in the battlefield. ^^

Ults with a global sound (Kled, Sion, Ornn), could have a notification posted, something perhaps above or below the kill feed that pops up. Able to be toggled off or on as people desire. This would make it visible for people like the OP here, but not invasive for those who don't want/need it.

You probably don't need an exclamation point or otherwise up on the screen to alert you.

If Sion ulting put in a comment into the text box - like in all caps "NOXUUUUUUUUUS" - it'd let you know he ulted without telling anyone where.

Yea I can see how that is a problem. And there are ZERO players in this game that don't listen to music while playing this game. Outside of Deaf people like yourself of course. It could be like how WW's passive kicks off with his screen flashing red and staying red util they are back above a % hp.

As a sion main i would be fine with adding more counterplay and warning

If he gets a compensation buff for it

Paying attention is also part of this game in your case you cannot help it, so that kind of sucks

Sion offers more counterplay to his kit then any other champion in the game adding more is fine but he needs compensation the risk vs reward in his kit is all loaded on the risk side already with minimal reward as is

At least they could do something about his abysmal damage vs minions with his Q

Out of topic thing : Its good to see someone who's deaf and does actually good in matches , i've seen your matches and you do really nicely even though you can't hear pings and ults alerts , while there are people who can hear and still pay 0 attention to pings , keep it up bro .

DemainaNyx10/1/2017, 3:41:48 AM4 votes

Indeed.

I mean Rengar has an indicator and sound. Kled technically has an indicator if you are near the end mark (might need a visual queue here too) and the sound as well. Nocturne makes your screen black along with his voice line. Kindred marking you has the indicator and sound (there is technically a sound when you kill her marks in the jungle with no visual indicator, but that isn't insanely important).

There should be accesibility toggle like with colorblind mode. Basically for those who want it, just like they can play with or without colorblind mode, they can play with our without deafmode, which might even expand bayond this. There might be some common indicator like icon in the corner of the screen warning about each event that is telegraphed so far only by audio.

FuzzyLumps10/1/2017, 3:22:24 PM4 votes

They could try a screen boarder with his champion icon at the top middle. They could use this for Kled and anyone else who has a sound indicator to their ultimate.

Up-voted for visibility as well! I think a visual cue in the chat would be the best bet for this. Even if it's the chat yelling "COWARDSSSSSSS".. well not yelling but you catch my drift. Also shout out to you for being so considerate of other people. You truly are amazing and I hope that riot does this not only for you, but for the entire community of people who don't/can't listen to the audio! :) [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Yeah a "haze" coming on screen would work (Like worse Nocturne ult) or small Text Alert with Sion's Champ Icon with this text: "NOXUSSS!!!"

xelaker10/2/2017, 2:25:21 PM1 votes

...but a visual indicator would either, clutter up the screen with effects for something you might not even be affected by, or tip off the person sion is trying to run down from half the map away. sucks you are deaf and such, but there's lots of global/near global stuff that have no tip off. The number of times I've been blindsided by an ez/ashe/draven/jinx is pretty high. just gotta deal with some things man... and for people who listen to music or mute the game... that's their choice man, I can sympathize with a physical issue like deafness or being colorblind, but people's mad jams are 100% optional.
