Advice How to Climb for All Ranks Until Diamond (from D2 player)
First and foremost, I am by no means a great league of legends player. I am completely aware that there are several thousand if not more people who are significantly better than me at this game. With that out of the way, I can provide a lot of advice for players in lower elos, and even into mid diamond.
So I will begin by addressing everyone as a whole. I believe there are 3 main fundamentals to this game, and really any sport or game. There is MICROmanagement, MACROmanagement, and MENTAL management.
In my personal opinion, i think control of your MENTAL is one of the most important ways to climb because its something most people don't focus on and it really can allow you to reach your potential as a player without having to improve at the game. The most common mistake people make is that they blame their teammates for their faults. Now, let's be real, I'd be very, very impressed if you found a game where your teammate did not make any mistakes. Honestly, I don't think you can find a game where your teammates don't make several mistakes. But the key here is to forget about your teammates. Their short-comings should not stop you from improving and climbing. Just ignore what they are saying and doing and focus on making sure you are doing well. If your team engages in a situation that will get you killed (WITHOUT BENEFIT TO YOUR TEAM), just back off and give them a few danger pings. If they don't listen and die, oh well, at least you didn't die and you can continue playing your game. The focus here is to make sure you stay calm and keep making rational decisions. Once you stop using your brain, that's when you become a monkey like the other 9 players in your game. In general, just make sure you are playing well and you will climb.
------MACRO------ This ties into the next point which is MACRO. This is by far the biggest differential between bronze-silver-gold-plat-diamond-diamond2+-diamond1-master-challenger-high challenger. MACRO is understanding what you should be doing as a player and as a team in the grand scheme of things. Right now the most important things in order of game progressions is:
- Make your bot lane win. Jglers: gank bot lane. Mid laners: shove mid and gank bot lane. Top laners: blow your opponents TP and force a play bot. ADC and SUPPS: get a cs lead, ward, and make it easy for your team to gank.
- Take bot tower After about 6-8 minutes, any kills bot almost guarantees bot tower's first turret gold.
- Take dragon. If you kill bot before you can take tower, take dragon. If you're on nunu/shyv/ww etc, take dragon before ganking bot if you can.
- Send bot lane to top lane and take top tower. Once bot tower falls, relieve pressure off your top laner by allowing him to farm bot, and take the top turret.
- Take rift herald. Once top turret has fallen, with the personal advantage, take rift herald.
- Take mid tower with rift herald while your team is grouped. With rift herald and the gold lead from above, take mid tower, get kills, take more towers.
- From this point on, make sure all side waves are shoving into the other team so your team has priority for any plays you want to make.
If you successfully lead your team to do this, you are at least 5000 gold up and the game's in your hands. Now you probably won't be able to secure all of the above every single game, but those are your priorities in the first 20minutes of the game. Once you've opened up the map, try to take the tier 2 towers. This is highly situational and I don't have the time to go into detail here, but with the current state of the game, your going to want to be grouped up and make sure your ADC doesn't die while the opposing teams wave clearer and ADC die.
Once the inhibitor turrets are exposed, your team is probably ahead. You want to kill an enemy player and take baron and/or one inhib. Once 1 inhibitor is down, take baron if it is still available. If not, group in a lane as far from the dead inhib as possible and either get a kill and take the second inhib, or wait for one of their players to clear the wave far away from you, and take that second inhib. Once they have 2 inhibs down, its almost impossible to lose and you just need to close out the game by grouping in the lane with the last inhib up.
NOW IF YOU ARE LOSING: If you're team is on the receiving end of the above ^^^^
- MAKE SURE NO ONE DIES that is by far the most important thing. With how the game is right now, unless you're hopelessly behind, if your team stops dying, there is not much the enemies can do.
- Clear waves and farm up as much as possible. Try to cut down on that gold deficit. Usually all the waves will be pushing towards your base so its pretty easy to nab cs safely.
- Get picks if possible. The best thing of the above is if you can kill one player on the winning team. This way you have up to 1 minute of the game where there is nothing the opposing team can do to abuse their lead.
- Once you feel your team is equal in strength, Follow the advice about when your team is winning (above).
TO SUM THE MACRO UP HERES A LIST OF OBJECTIVES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE:
- Nexus obviously
- Inhibitor
- Baron
- Inhibitor turret
- Elder dragon (note this depends on how many dragons your team has and how many elder dragons have spawned)
- Fire dragon
- First turret
- Mid lane turrets
- Side lane turrets
- Kills
- Red and Blue buffs
- Skuttle Crab
What this list means, is that at any point in the game, you need to ask yourself, what on this list can my team secure. You always want the highest objective on the list at any given moment.
-----MICRO----- MICRO is basically your mechanical skill at the game. This is probably the least important thing to focus on when improving because practically everyone silver and above is capable of doing all the combos, etc on champions. However, here are some things you want to focus on:
- CS everything In lane, your job is to last hit every cs that is free. This means that if the other laner is not going to attack you, you should be getting a free last hit. In lower ranks this basically means every minion is free cs.
- Poke their laners when they cs. If they are autoing a minion, they cant auto you.
- Properly position your champion. If you are janna u need to be as far back as possible where you can still support your carries.
- Perform champion mechanics properly.
- Learn how to lane, teamfight, mid game etc. with every champion you play.
Now, the final section of this novel is advice for every elo. This is subjective and all my opinion, but heres what I think every elo needs to do to climb.
