point and click, melee ranged stun

Unfortunate Game2 votes

It could potentially be a slow. And then itll slow based off your hp vs theirs. I'd prefer that over a stun.

Hellioning2 votes

Yeah, she's only at 47% winrate with a mediocre playrate. No need for buffs at all.

^ Okay

This right here is one of the major disappointments i have with the League community. We need to get it out of our heads that all champs NEED to have a 50% win rate to be balanced. That's simply not the case.

In a world where everyone is 50% win rate, why would i EVER pick a jungler that ISN'T Lee sin, or an AD that ISN'T Vayne? if you master these champs, you can get the absolute most of them and use their high potential for outplay and carrying ability to run over the whole game.

People need to accept that win rate is a representative of player success ON AVERAGE and is representative of how an AVERAGE player who has little mastery of a particular champ does in a given game. It is not an objective measure of champion "goodness."

Watch Box Box's stream and watch him tear assholes on Riven. He can do that because he has a very clear mastery of every detail on that champ. Is Riven annoying? Yeah she is, but the average player shouldn't be able to pick up Riven and immediately destroy everyone with her. Her complexity shouldn't allow her to do that.

LIKEWISE Irelia is actually a relatively complex champion. People like Irelia Carries U and other people play Irelia at a very high level and take advantage of a lot of the nuances in her kit, specifically in her Q and W. If Irelia were to have a 51% win rate on average, she'd start drawing bans immediately. At a point where Irelia has a 51% win rate, any bum can take a semi-complex champion and has just above a coinflip's chance of winning. That's not representative of Irelia's somewhat steep mastery curve.

As far as play rate, that's just player preference. People are going to pick shit that's strong, and they're going to pick champs that are fun. If she's not overly strong, people that aren't big fans aren't going to pick her. To use pickrate as a measure of her success is also pretty stupid.

TL;DR Complex champs with steep mastery curves and high potential for outplay and good use shouldn't have a 50% win rate. Irelia IS one of those champions

Hellioning5 votes

Really? Because Irelia's winrate increase kinda tapers off after 20 or so games on her. She's not Azir or anything.

And yes, Irelia is kinda complex, but she's not complex enough to warrant a 47% winrate. She still has almost all targeted abilities and relatively simple use cases. Again, she's not Azir.

whether irelia is strong or not, irelia's E creates degenerate play patterns where irelia will intentionally stay at low health to be able to reliably burst down squishy targets, when both burst and CC aren't supposed to be strengths of irelia at all.

Voluug132 votes

That only opens windows for counterplay.

Irelia isnt inmortal either, and she certainly isnt good against 2v1, even with her passive.

Anonagon1 votes

WOW! It opens up counterplay! It's almost as if that would be the entire point of the proposed change!

Given that Irelia is a very straightforward champion with a mostly point-and-click kit, increased counterplay would be a great thing for the experience of playing against her, regardless of her strength or weakness at any given time.

Voluug132 votes

I meant ''staying low on hp just to use a melee stun opens up counterplay possibilities, Irelia is not inmortal''.

Given that Irelia is a very straightforward champion with a mostly point-and-click kit,

And basically no escapes, costant mana issues, conditional AoE and bad waveclear. On top of having next to zero teamfighting and being dependant on farm/snowball to kill adcs.

Irelia is a good duelist with good sustain and anti-burst mechanic, and little else. But she is still weak to poke and disengage. She isnt used in pro games, and has low winrate and terrible playrate. Melee and ranged with disengage dump on her.

Apocalypsic2 votes

The real question should be why isn't Riven receiving any real buffs if Irelia is. ;----;

Dunkrius2g2 votes

Because if Riven gets any major buffs, then they will ride the free ELO train called Riven. Riven has received minor buffs. Anymore and you will see another example of Trundle running around.

You'd think though with how complex her playstyle is and the work you have to put into playing her proper she'd see some kind of compensation when she's in pretty much the weakest state she's ever been in due to direct and indirect nerfs towards her.

Pretty much one of the worst tops in the game, even though she's also probably one of the most fun and used to be one of the most rewarding when played right.

Her passive "buff" literally did nothing for her at all. You don't have enough AD early to make that even worth glancing at with such a small change.

Dunkrius2g1 votes

The only reason why she is doing terrible atm is because she lost 1 item. Which is The Brutalizer. That item gave her enough stats to destroy any top laner because of the sheer amount of stats she heavily benefits from. All she needs to do is farm for that item and kill at lv 6. Thats the safest route. the riskier route is to kill at lv 2/3.

Buffing her at this point seems pointless. I know how much effort is need into maximizing her. Its hard especially when you want to animation cancel her Ult. The rest seems to be a bit challenging.

Her whole balancing revolves around her animation canceling. You remove that, Riot will need to heavily compensate for it. With this route, anyone who can pick this champion will actually and mindlessly faceroll the keyboard. Now you actually have to play smart and not faceroll as opposed to what other people say when she was FOTM.

The passive buff was to compensate the loss of 4 AD from mastery.

If Riot really wants to buff her, another 5% on her passive will seem to banaid her but thats pretty much it. Any more buffs and we will have so much QQ.

I don't mind her being buffed. At least there will be other top laners to fight then just the usual tanks or adc tank bruiser known as Graves

#make fighters great again

The Bíg Ticket2 votes

Yes let's prevent any bruiser from being playable. I only want to see tanks and adcs in toplane.

Ralanr1 votes

You think tanks are safe from Irelia? Haha, no. No they are not. I like playing tanks and I fucking hate fighting Irelia.

The Bíg Ticket2 votes

You must be bad then lol.

Ralanr1 votes

Well I certainly ain't master tier.

The Bíg Ticket2 votes

Np as long as you enjoy the game while playing :)

Irelia gets trashed by any tank though....thats why she has a terrible winrate atm.

Only Play Darius2 votes

They are buffing her as a quick fix to the brainless ADC toplaners. They should instead be nerfing the ADC class such that they aren't so reliable in top lane, but we all know that won't happen. Best we can hope for is they nerf item 3053 to old rageblade levels of useless, so no one builds it at all.

Ralanr2 votes

And then everyone who actually likes item 3053 on fighters and tanks cries in pain. Their cries will go unanswered sadly, because Riot refuses to make it melee only (I guess because it has no on hit effect).

Voluug132 votes

They need to rework the shield, simple as that.

Blanket nerfing it is silly when its balanced on tanks and bruisers.

Only Play Darius2 votes

They need to make it melee only, it's the easy fix but for some reason it's the one they don't want to implement.

Maybe they refuse to accept that ranged champs are broken by design and some items simply cannot be balanced for both types of champs. They admitted it with the masteries, which is why most of them have stronger effects for melee champions.

Voluug132 votes

Probably both.

The point is blanket nerfing the item is the worst path to follow.

Renekton ?

Anonagon2 votes

{quoted}

Renekton ?

even fury-upgraded, its 1.5 seconds, not 2 its also less than half the range, even when fury-upgraded maintaining the 50 fury upgrade while getting within range is much much harder than irelia's condition of "be at less maxhp than opponent", especially since Renek would probably rather use that fury on Q irelia also has a targeted 650 range dash to get close enough to stun, while renek's is 450 range without the second dash, and isn't targetted

J E B A ł T E D2 votes

At least Irelia has to risk taking a trade post-stun, renekton can just use another 450 unit dash to get away.

And i'm pretty sure he does way more damage, and his ult heals him more and does more damage.

Renekton = Irelia 2.0, the difference between a 1 and 2 stun means nothing when you or several people can unload a full combo either way

Anonagon1 votes

The point of this thread has nothing to do with Renekton And Renekton isn't hardly Irelia 2.0. Completely different playstyles.

J E B A ł T E D1 votes

Hey, you opened up the can of worms, not me. The only reason I see Renekton and Irelia having different playstyles is that Renekton gets two dashes and Irelia only has one, so she can't play aggressive unless she wants to take risks and have meaningful trades

Jaj2ed2 votes

or na?

IcyPepper2 votes

I'd rather they reduce the duration to one second, mostly because it's just past melee ranged? I'd understand being annoyed with skills that are ranged and point and click, but nigh melee range abilities are...

The power isn't in the point and click, the power is in the stun itself. I know saying "point and click" makes the ability sound more bullshit, but that's not why the ability is frustrating. It's frustrating because it lasts so long and it's put on a a duelist, ensuring that she wins every trade with a combination of sustain and crowd control.

Voluug132 votes

Yes, because what this game needs is less reliable, anti mobility CC.

The Deckowner2 votes

how about pantheon's 500 range point and click stun that blocks next aa?

irelias kit tends to be straight forward and oppressive when she's strong due to being reliable and linear

Ralanr1 votes

Maybe remove the damage so it's less confusing on when it stuns and when it slows.

Masala Chai2 votes

It's very simple, if she has a higher percentage HP than you, it slows.

If she has a lower percentage HP than you, it stuns.

You pretty much know when you are going to get stunned or not.

Ralanr1 votes

You'd think so, but I've been stunned in scenarios where I should have been slowed.

It's very tilting.

Voluug132 votes

Its not ''more hp or less hp''.

Its by %, which means you can have 100 max hp and irelia 1000, but if she has 500 hp and you 90, she will stun you anyways.

SnugglePuggle941 votes

No, she's fine as is.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Wait for her rework. Riot has mentioned that her stun is a little wonky, so it's likely to be changed when they get around updating her.

SpankMyPhatAshe1 votes

better nerf irelia.... oh wait

DarkLarvitar1 votes

she cant have skills shots when she is melee, when she does it with her blades so its basicly an auto attack

Brorelia1 votes

Why not just make it a grounding, blinding, root that silences 100% of the time instead of a slow that only stuns if the target has higher health.

OR do you not understand how much dependency Irelia has on that skill to be useful?

It would be like removing the Tornado from Yasuo's kit.

If you want the stun to be removed from Irelia then man up and say you also want the tornado on Yasuo to be gone.

So basically an across the board nerf to every champ's power budget?

WoonStruck1 votes

How about Irelia is in no way overpowered right now. She needs help if anything. If you're afraid of her point-and-click stun, you need to A)Not be dumb and try to poke her down during laning. She has sustain and the ability to burst you if you poke her. B)focus on farm so she can't all-in you. All you have to do is watch for low HP minions near you. C)Pick any ranged champ with CC disengage and watch as she becomes worthless throughout laning if you ward.

You want to complain about point and click? How about the absurd amount of damage and effective 'control' ADCs have via disengages.

But no, Vlad's damage being as binary as ADCs makes him toxic if he's strong because his healing isn't lifesteal.

/end rant on everyone's bandwagon opinions on 'problematic' champions
