If match making works....

If the match making system works, as people like to claim it does, why is there such a massive skill discrepancy in lower divisions? The highest I've ever been ranked was Silver 1, so I'm speaking from that perspective. A match-making system that allows players of such obvious skill differences to be at the same ELO/MMR is obviously flawed, and the fact that this happens is proof-positive of that.

When someone posts about being frustrated with bad teammates, people like to tell them they just aren't good enough to carry and, therefore, to advance divisions. My thought on this is, if the matchmaking system works, why would you have to carry your team on your back to advance? Should not everyone in your games be of a similar skill? How is it that there are such MASSIVE differences in skill levels of players at the same ELO/MMR? If the only way to advance is to carry your team, how did some of these players get to this ELO/MMR, because they clearly did not carry their team. The fact is, you shouldn't have to be able to carry your teammates single handed to advance. A player that can solo carry every game at bronze ELO/MMR belongs in Gold+, not in Silver, for example.

TLDR: there is too large of a skill discrepancy within the same divisions to be able to say matchmaking works properly.

the problem with your post is: you cant determine someones skill by playing one game with him. your league is the average skill lvl you play at. i have games where i play like mid gold. and then i have games where i stomp dias. you cant really talk about "skill discrepancy" since all your intel belongs to a single game.

Your division does not equal MMR and MMR is used to calculate matches. Your division is approx/average while MMR can drasticly change game to game.

You would agree, that It's fair to say that many of the people in lower divisions are there because they don't have a good understanding of the game, yes?

And if they do not have a good understanding, it follows that there are aspects about the game they would miss due to their lack of understanding of the game. Some of these things would naturally include opportunities and both good plays and mistakes in gameplay of their team and in the enemy team. And some of those missed opportunities and mistakes in gameplay would be made and missed by the person who does not understand the game as well.

That's the reason why I have gone into threads made by someone complaining:

"I've done so great in my recent games but all the terrible players are only on my team and the idiots on mine make me lose."

but when I look at one of those linked games, I see he played Morgana support with half his runes flat AP and the other half a mish-mash of who-knows-what-he-was-thinking, that he died as much as anyone else and sold his Spellthief's at 9 minutes for a Forbidden Idol while failing to notice that the oh-so-perfect enemy team he was complaining about had a Double Zeal Jungle Twisted Fate.
