"Crit quints > AD quints"

Jhin's passive gives Jhin +0.4% increased attack damage per 1% critical chance.

A full set of AD quints gives 6.75 AD. While a full set of Crit quints gives 5.6% crit chance which Jhin's passive translates into 2.24% increased ad. (It's also worth mentioning that Jhin's crits with auto attacks deal 25% reduced damage. Meaning Jhin's crits with only deal 150% of what would normally be 200%. But this won't be taken into consideration for the purposes of this calculation.)

6.75/2.24=3.01 3.01x100=301

In order for Crit quints to give the same amount of AD as AD quints you need to have 301 AD. This means that for most of the game AD quints will give you more AD than Crit quints.

The thing that's most noteworthy about the crit quints to me is his early game synergy with them. People will play around his fourth shot easy, but if you're capable of critting and regenerating with warlord's on something other than the fourth shot it makes you that much harder to push out of lane.

It could be said that every marksman has some early game synergy with crit due to their ability to turn a trade around all by themselves and I'm sure there are folks who swear by their 1 crit chance mark. But for Jhin it seems odd to itemize or rune when his critical strikes only gain half the bonus damage as everyone else in the game aside from yasuo. But at least yasuo gets double crit chance to make up for it. I don't think Jhin gets enough bonus AD from the crit-to-%AD portion of his passive to make it worth itemizing for it.

Truth.

Jhin scales a lot better with raw AD early because 40% of crap is still crap. But 40% of a couple hundred is pretty dank. Unfortunately it means he is a bit slow to scale. This is why items like IE or ER are a good first buy. They both give a big chunk of AD and some crit.

It is very common for Jhin to get 300 ad really quickly taking only 2 items and a few levels

Totally agree that QSS is a must on jhin, I usually buy it right after my BF sword.

Have you played with item 3146 on him?

I tried it in a few customs paired with a item 3072 and later on his autos will heal for rediculous amounts, which is great if people are trying to focus and duel you. The active is great to kite or catch and the AP it gives is on a 1:1 ratio with his traps, which I consider a major selling point with his kit, since it effects how hard the traps that passively spawn on kill hit for in addition to your manually placed ones. It gives crappy AD, but it works reasonably well with deathfire touch, which uses AP and AD ratios to deal its damage.

Other things to consider is the use of a 10% cdr item like item 3812 in addition to essence to give you CDR cap, since you don't really need blue. With any remote amount of lifesteal it's basically a 15% DR for jhin vs AD picks and frees up the boot slot for offensive boot picks like swifties or berserkers or to double down on your defense with tabi vs AD.

item 3156 works well against AP picks especially in the mid role where armor penetration serves jhin well early. Synergizes well with QSS, which I consider a core item for him.

item 3046 is a situational thing I've been playing with, as the MS steroid this item gives paired with his passive is insane. I think it might be good for catching someone out.

Mentions Last Whisper and not item 3036, which as a 6th item is an absolutely insane late game item for Jhin vs armor stackers. 15% more AD on top of 45% bonus armor pen is insane.

Summoner's name is Youmuus, and he doesn't mention how strong item 3142 can be on Jhin? Lots of AD, has MS+AS active, 20 armor pen, and 10% CDR, which synergizes well with ER.

A lot of people talk about Jhin's reduced crit damage, but never mention that he gains 10%+(40% bonus AS) MS every time he crits. I also prefer item 3046 over item 3094 on Jhin. He gets more from PD because of its better stats, and the PD MS passive synergizes incredibly well with his crit MS bonus, not to mention yet another 5% MS just because.

I agree with more stats from PD, I really like the item myself, but at the same time I feel like the extra range from RFC is exactly what jhin needs because he can't really afford to get caught.

Youmuu's or Death's Dance both seem like really good pick ups in addition to essence to give you 40% CDR. I've been building death's dance to combat most of these AD assassins that have been riding the duskblade craze, but if I'm really ahead youmuu's might bee a good pickup.

Hello i actually used Youmuus a bunch during pbe testing of Jhin and i found that item 3139 is almost always better but if u need pure dps damage output then it is one of the strongest items for jhin
