Of course build Magic resist, sure, But what if the enemy has Ad in the jungle, bot (of course) and top. Stack armor then you end up shredded by the only AP they got by late game. Do you just stack health or wedge some MR into your kit?

Depending on the enemy champions you can go for 1 armor, 1 mr, 
, 
and 
or you can go 2 armor, and and stop the AP burst with the active from . Or if its not a hard scaling ADC and a mage like 
, whose burst can be immense even for a tank you go 2 mr items, , and . There are times that the mage wont pose much threat and you can ignore him without one of the items that provide only mr. But it always depends on who the mage is and who are the AD DPS the enemy has.
Assuming you didnt counter pick with someone with silence if eh build mag pen build hp.
If you're a tank, just get 
vs. Cass, Malz, or Azir, and get 
vs. anyone else. That's literally all the MR you need. If they've got a lot of cc maybe get 
too, but 9/10 times you're gonna want 
instead. AP mages are crap against tanks, even with Void Staff. Just run them down and cc them to death.
