Assassins are Thugs?

I like the new Champion Mastery system, but something strikes me as kind of odd. The first rank on the Assassin tree is "Thug", which, in my opinion, doesn't really suit the class very well. Usually in fiction, a thug is a brutish character, mostly relying on pure strength rather than tactics, usually as pawns for a leader or boss character. Thus, the term "Thug" would be a better fit for a class like Fighter, which is all about overpowering the opponent with strength. For Assassins, who mainly rely on speed, surprise, and burst damage to get the job done, the term doesn't seem to be a very good fit.

Personally, I think that "Cutpurse" or "Pickpocket" would have been better terms, since they emphasize more of the sneakiness aspect of playing as an Assassin.

I'm not really complaining, I just think that it's sort of an odd choice for a mastery title.

a thug is also someone who would rob you in a dark alley. seems appropriate for assassin/rogue like characters. at least for the first rank.

I don't like it either.
