Urgot actually isn't that bad

I know that Urgot is really... not a popular champ, to put things lightly. However, with the way people talk about him, you'd think that he was so bad that picking him causes you to automatically lose the game.

Now, I'm not going to say that Urgot's a perfect champ, because he's not. He has a lot of issues, and a bit of a weird kit that doesn't synergize that well with his stats, and he is very mana-hungry if you don't do anything about it. Not to mention, he has a serious lack of mobility, making it difficult for him to stick to an enemy to deal big damage. However, despite those flaws, it's still possible to build him in such a way that he can act as a decent fighter with some nice power at his disposal. For example, rushing a item 3004 will help deal with his mana issues early, and grabbing a combo of item 3071 +item 3035 will allow him to peel armor in order to hit even harder with his autoattacks and Acid Hunters.

Plus, his ult, despite looking very strange at first glance, actually has some decent uses. For example, there's the obvious use of trapping an enemy under a tower for an easy kill, but you can also use it to turn the tables near the end of a duel, taking advantage of the increased armor to shrug off their attacks, or use it to briefly incapacitate an enemy during a teamfight, giving your team a short advantage. It may not synergize with anything else in his kit, and that is a bit of a bother, but as for what it is, it can still come in handy from time to time.

Basically, what I'm saying is that we shouldn't give up on Urgot just because he's got some problems. He's not as useless as they say he is, and he can actually be a pretty decent surprise if you know how to use him. Just because he's not in the meta, that doesn't mean that he can't be a good part of the team.

You should watch more LCS. He has become reasonably popular.

He'll get his vogue for about a month. Now that a pro team has played him prominently, everyone will whine how he's op. Or more likely, he'll go free week and thousands of people will pick Urgot up, fail to play him properly, and then the champ will return to obscurity.

He works well as a counter against certain assassins or high damage champions (damage reduction and shield screws them up, as well as resists when you ult them).

He's just ugly. As said by Gbay, Urgot is viable, he's just so ugly that no one plays him.

Why play Urgot, when you can play Fiora ?

He has never been bad, he was just strange. His kit is amazing 1v1, and always as been. He was like Soraka, she was UGLY, but when they did the model change people began to play her more. People are playing Urgot more because of LCS.

He falls late game hard, so your team needs at least a hypercarry or something that can win you the game if it goes for long enough, unless you can play a fast game.

This is mostly because he only scales with AD, where other champions scale with AD + AS + Crit, hence his damage output is limited.

He might be more usefull in ranked than in blind, since there you can use it as counterpick, or can NOT use him when you are going to get dumpstered by the enemy laner/jungler

Played him a couple times lately. Hard has hell to get to play him, people refuse to be in the same game as him.

Never had mana problems as him, but my rune setup is from the champion spotlight XD

His midgame power spike is fucking magnificent however, and If your team isn't doing bad to late game still remains useful with his CC.

He doesn't really fall off, But he doesn't catch up.

Yesterday I had a Voli that lost his lane to an Urgot saying "wow, I didn't know Urgot had damage"... people should stop judging champions by their popularity.

I've been playing Urgot mid occasionally for almost 2 years, and I build: item 3043 item 3035 item 3111 item 3071 item 3110 item 3102 (or similar items, depending on the match-up).

Urgot is finnaly in a good spot, after so many seasons :)

He's received quite a few buffs fairly recently and can be used to shutdown assassins in lane and teamfights which can be pretty valuable. IIRC, he's being used in some professional games to take advantage of his strengths.

Before his buffs, he was far weaker and more clunky to use.

What's a good rune page/mastery setup for him? Been thinking of taking him either top or ADC, but I keep reading conflicting setup hints.

UPfreely3/29/2015, 7:30:35 PM1 votes

you should watch keane play him, he makes him look op.

I think most of us actually know how scary urgot can become and do a deliberate attempt to shut him down early. Of-course bronze/silver and a lot of gold league heroes constantly underestimate him.

Inb4 Urgot get's nuked from orbit because he can prevent LC$ Big Plays.

HeadHonchkrow3/30/2015, 12:37:32 AM1 votes

So, you are saying he shouldn't get a rework?

ComannderShepard3/30/2015, 4:32:14 AM1 votes

I dont think his ult does much for him if he doesn't build tank though

Angry Monster3/30/2015, 8:02:21 AM1 votes

You have to think when taking urgot. Which is really hard for most league players. You do not just blind pick urgot and expect to win. Also he is not an ADC, people need to learn where to use him also.

Wullf3/30/2015, 9:09:39 AM1 votes

100% of games Urgot was in our team, we won.

Mirage Seraph3/29/2015, 8:50:31 AM1 votes

Note on his ult, it actually has a VERY practical use in terms of combo'ing it with his abilities. If you land an ult, 95% of the time, it allows you a free Corrosive Charge landing. you know where they're gonna be when that supression ends, there's no guessing like when you're in lane fighting for CS and poke. Only chance of missing is if they have a blink or zhonya's or 800ms.

But yeah, Urgot is deceptively strong. Tons of free armor and MR, oodles of damage reduction, free armor shred that stacks nicely with your standard itemization... And that voice~

His only serious problems are mobility and early mana problems, and some clunkiness but most of that has been fixed with recent changes. Honestly I hope they don't rework him now, at first I was playing him ironically but I've taken a liking to him. Like. A serious liking. He's probably my most played Top Laner, barring Naut recently.

Also, that voice~
