Masteries and Champions

So, some will call me a noob or suggest I'm bronze, but I have never used runes. I plan on using them later, but I only started LoL a little over a year ago. I am trying to build my champion roster right now, and have not focused on runes, because in order to complete the runes I wanted for one of my pages, I Believe it was like 20,000 IP (if I remember correctly). I have gotten along fine without them. The bad games I have are from stupid mistakes I make, not that everyone is stronger than me. I don't know if the people I play with in normal games use runes, but I don't notice a real difference. Last season I ranked Silver 4 (this season I have played 2 ranked games with someone sucking and feeding on each. In no hurry to return to ranked).

So, in short, do I really need them? Should I really dedicate time right now to start rune pages? If so, what are some useful general runes?

Edit: Yes, I meant runes, not masteries. That was dumb.

seriously man runes are super strong. get some. it should really be the first thing to do for everyone who just reached lvl 30.

man the little brother of a friend of mine plays league too and i swear once i found out he lacks runepages and only uses like one runepage with completely fucked up t1 runes and not even a full page of them... he actually REFUSED TO SPEND IP ON THAT!!! almost had to beat the piss outta him but now he at least has one yasuo crit runepage he uses for every champion....

Ok I'm really hoping that you mean runes, not masteries. Masteries are free and even if you don't know how to use them, putting points into anything will give you benefits in some way, so go ahead and do that if this is about masteries.

And runes give a pretty significant advantage, yes. They give you pretty high stat boosts and they can be the difference between winning lane or losing lane and other situations. You start with 2 rune pages and the general pages you're going to want is an AD page and an AP page. These pages will serve you very well for the largest pool of champions.

AD Page: 9x Attack Damage Marks (red rune) [205 x 9] 9x Armor Seal (Yellow rune) [205 x 9] 9x Magic resistance glyph (blue rune) [205 x 9] 3x Attack Damage quintessences (big rune) [1025 x 3]

Total Cost: 8610 gold if I did my math right.

AP Page: 9x Magic Penetration Marks (red rune) [410 x 9] 9x Armor Seal(yellow rune) [205 x 9] 9x Magic resistance glyph (blue rune) [205 x 9] 3x Ability power Quintessences(big rune) [1025 x 3]

Total Cost: 10455 gold (6765 gold if u already got magic resist and armor runes from AD page)

These two pages generally serve almost all champions in the game perfectly fine.

** EDIT: Added total costs just in case you were wondering. some quick mental math in there.

You can actually try to calculate how much gold you are missing from not using runes.

It's like giving you a 1k+ gold advantage at the very start of the game, so yes, I think they are very much needed indeed.

At least try T2 runes, they are absurdly cheap for the power they give!

Thanks for the advice. Right now I am saving up for Lucian, but afterwards will be sure to get some Runes.
