I remember the old days, when you're just clearing waves, minding your own business. Then all of a sudden, a spear comes out of the fog and chunks you for 3/4 of your health. A long distance, safe, spammable nuke. At least you could hide behind minions.

I saw a LCS match recently were a Varus, believe he was on skt was just chunking everyone down with a single hit, so much so the broadcasters were losing their minds, was pretty funny. Personally i've always had the mentality that everything in league should be skill shots, and if those abilities happen to be op i'm ok with that as long as they have to land them.
