If you afk in the middle of a ranked game because its past your bedtime
Maybe you're too young to be playing league.
Real talk.

OMG yes. Drives me nuts. I've also had TWO kids afk for a long time because their dad made them take out the garbage. Another time, same deal, because they had to eat dinner. Many times "gtg guys, mom's about to pull the plug cuz I'm up too late."
I'm an adult with a toddler. I don't play unless my wife (or somebody else) is there to babysit. If she's asleep, I won't even play unless my wife is also home, because she could wake up and need somebody (and I'm not choosing League over my crying daughter).
If you're a kid and you have a bed time, don't start a game within an hour of that bedtime (30-40 min is probably safe for ARAM). If you have a parent who can't understand that you can't pause this game, and doesn't understand the ramifications of leaving, sit them down and explain it to them. If they're too stupid or stubborn to understand, then don't play this game unless you're home alone. It really is that simple.
On the adult side, I've had people afk because they had to go to work. Also had a guy in ranked champion select say "let's make this fast, guys, gotta go to work in 30 mins." Oh. My. God.
I know there's Leaverbuster, but I wish you could take a screenshot of this stuff and send in a support ticket to get them immediately banned. ...Hmm, maybe that would actually work?
i totally agree people going afk for stupid reasons because they cant think ahead and then losing ranked games for their whole game is legit retardedness. but perma banning someone for it is not really a good idea lol. emergencies happen man and at the end of the day league of legends is just a game. i know how u feel tho.
They don't need to be permabanned for them to learn a lesson. But an instant temporary ban would be nice solid immediate feedback that their behavior is NOT okay. Better than waiting for enough reports or leaver buster to notice there's a problem. By then many games have been ruined.
I also understand that actual emergencies happen. That's different, and I would not hold it against somebody if something serious necessitated an AFK. For example, one guy AFK'd on us because his elderly neighbor fell down and needed help. Sometimes other stuff happens, too, like power outages (though if you play during a bad storm, that's stupid for multiple reasons).
To be fair, power outages can happen for more reasons than just bad storms.
I am an adult as well, so i know where youre coming from. But you really cant expect adolescents to think ahead like that. As much as it annoys me, as an adult, you should realize this is just a game for most of us. Sure, it gives us some satisfaction, but its not like our livelihoods depend on it.
as toxic as this community is, i usually just say "cmon dude. you shouldnt rank if you gotta go. it ruins it for the rest of us". hopefully the message goes across.
I do admonish these people, but I'm skeptical that it actually sinks in. I do think that an immediate, stern punishment, such as an instant temporary ban, would do wonders to drive the point home that they can't pull that stuff.
It may be just a game, but games are more fun when you at least have a chance to win. Every time some irresponsible person goes afk, they've wasted a minimum of 20 minutes of my (and my team's) precious free time. Seriously, I would pay a monthly subscription fee if it allowed me to queue up in an "Age 21+ only" player pool with restricted access. It wouldn't solve everything, but I think it'd cut down on a lot of the really ridiculous stuff, like bedtime afk's.
A lot of younger players get mad when I lump everybody their age together... they feel like I'm not giving them enough credit. To them, I say it's a numbers game, and not personal. You simply will have more toxicity issues the younger the average age of the player. Other people say stuff like you just did: "you can't expect adolescents to think ahead." The thing is, I actually DO give adolescents enough credit that I expect them to behave like decent human beings. I know they can handle it, because some do. I was a genuinely good person at that age... probably better than I am now! Certainly less cynical. ;)
Well "it's just a game" is a really douchy way of looking at it when you're ruining the fun of 9 people. Football is also just a game, yet I wouldn't take the ball and throw it into the river. Just because your life doesn't depend on it doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. Not to mention some people can't play 10 matches a day and when some idiot goes afk they probably just ruined 45 minutes out of someone's day that were supposed to be fun.
I agree. Good sportsmanship is a thing because something being a game doesn't mean people don't invest themselves in it, and so it's not as though behavior that can ruin the game for everyone else isn't of any consequence. Because I'm an adult, I don't always have much time to play. Sure, sometimes I can binge and am bothered less by that sort of thing. Some months, though, I only have a few nights where I can fit a game or maybe two in. Yes, it's still just a game to me too, but it's also the one game I had time for and will have time for for a while, and having it ruined is disappointing to say the least.

Those people need a swift kick into the low priority queue, permanently.
Or at least shouldn't have gotten on so close to your bedtime. But then I suppose if you're young enough to have a prescribed bedtime, you're probably too young to be responsible about it.
Isn't there a little note about not playing if you can't stay the estimated+ time.
I don't know about young, but if you intentionally rage-afk in the middle of a ranked game, I'd say you're too immature to be playing League.
Similar to this..
Top: "Hey I gotta go sorry". Me: "Well, shit happens I guess.." Player starts moving again after afking for a few minutes. Me: "Wtf? I thought you were leaving? Are you staying?" Top: "My brother wanted to try something" Me: "Tell your brother he's pissing people off".
did this actually happen to you? because that sucks if it did
Lee jg, who was actually decent (although not hard to do), afk for 15 minutes halfway through the match, when he starts playing again, it's this kid's bro and his top duo is like "can you play lee? where's corey?" "In bed." So we were winning teamfights, got every dragon, but when he afk'd they took 2 drags, baron and inhib. I guess his mom went downstairs cause original player came back and we ended up winning after I initiated a good teamfight with charm. But fuck me if I wasn't exceptionally frustrated.
You my dear sir, has just showed me that the profanity filter is offline... Thank you! - 'ere, have a fukin' Draven smiley!
Profanity filter doesn't exist on Boards because there's a report button and they have better mod tools available.
Plus, Riot doesn't care about swearing, exactly. It's when every other word is a swear for no reason, that it becomes unacceptable, or when they're directed at someone for the sole purpose of insulting them.
Riot may not care about swears, but these little kids that play do. That's something I don't like about this community, you can't say ANYTHING to anyone when they do something wrong. If you do it's "oh report this guys, he is super toxic". I mean what happened to the good old days of shit talking? Remember the COD days when you would say "Hey man you f**king suck, step it up!" Then he would respond "That's not what you're mom said last night." Or some playful banter like that. Now it's like "Man why did you dive under tower in a 1v5?" To get a response of "OMG this guys is so toxic, team please report him, and I'm going to mute him".
If you're messing up so bad that you're making me waste 30-60 minutes of my day, and lose LP in a game where I'm playing really well and most likely going to carry you, I should have the right to say "Hey man stop f**king up!"
I guess his mom went downstairs cause original player came back and we ended up winning after I initiated a good teamfight with charm. But fuck me if I wasn't exceptionally frustrated.
You really gotta admire his persistence if that's what actually happened.
Mom: Son, its time for bed. Put the game away. Son: But mom– Mom: No buts. You're 38 years old and you need your rest. Now, get to bed. Son: But its only 8:30. Dad: That's it, off with the wifi.
This is why it's good to be both the Wifi admin and the only person who understands technology in the house
Can't upvote enough.
Most kids I knew growing up were completely unable to understand logic, like "if I start a game and I know I have to go in 15 minutes, my game ISN'T going to be over".
Most kids I know now have the added issue of "It's cool to not give a fuck or have respect for other people".
Not to say there aren't older people with that issue, but those people at least don't have bedtimes or chores with parents who "force" them to comply the minute they'res supposed to.
You know what? This isn't even the worst.
Top 5 Things you don't want to hear in LOL
Five "how do I play this character"?
Four yelling at teammates; xxxx "or feed"
Three "I've got to go in 30 minutes so let's win this fast"; someone is afk
Two "Let's duo top" or "let's duo mid"; a different variation is "why don't we have a jungler?" or "why won't anyone give me a leash?"
One "We're going to go kill the enemy jungler; it's won me the last 5 games".
Honorable mention is "gg; X is fed; surrender at 20"
dont forget the people in champ select that say "let me xxxx, last game i carried so hard"
I had someone once instalock Caitlyn and said they main ADC. Then once we were in game ask "Do I build AD or AP"
how do you do that It's right in the name
Hey now, I've had to AFK because my parents decided to bring my kid home from babysitting without calling me first. After I said we often play online games and it's imperative they give us a heads up when getting our kid home, it happened again. At least she only interrupted ARAMs, but geez, I had to start calling before every game after it happened a time or two when they dropped him off unexpectedly earlier than they originally said. My parents still interfere with my League/gaming time, and I'm not even a kid. (To be fair, recently they have started calling about 30 minutes before they bring him home.)
Also, UPS has interrupted my gaming, and is beyond control guys. The man comes at all hours of the afternoon, and Amazon Prime makes online shopping too easy not to do it often. But at least this only takes a few minutes.
I feel bad for your kid, why do you not have him/her all the time, why are you parents picking him/her up from daycare while your at home playing video games, sounds like you need to get your priorities straight. Sounds like your parents are parenting your own child.

I think he ment his parents were babysitting the child. It is annoying, it happens a lot with my parents too. Just because we need a night off to ourselves doesn't make a parent bad. Kids are exhausting , you need alone time every once in a while to keep yourself sane

Why have kids in the first place :^)
Sometimes you have to do things that your child cannot go to. IE: A major doctors appointment, or an adult party for a friend. I'm not going to miss my friends 25th birthday party if someone I trust is willing to watch my kids. Also, grandparents love having time with their grandchildren. What if perhaps, they said, "Hey I want to pick Timmy up and spend the day with him. There is this new icecream place next to the playground." They do that fyi. Sometimes they show up out of the blue to take your kids for a few hours. And everyone needs a small break from their kids. It's the number one reason that men and women stay at work over hours. It's not just the increased expenses... It also helps keep a marriage or relationship alive. Aka "Date Night". Grandparents watch the child or children for a day/night, so that mommy and daddy can be 'alone'... Sometimes leading to another child. In respects, I think someone should be able to pass a reading evaluation before playing ranked. Saying "What does this character do?" or "I didn't know that about my abilities/passive." "What am I supposed to build?" They should be able to read what the abilities are, and answer what that means in laments terms before playing ranked.
Clearly not a parent. Babysitting is the only thing stopping mass murders and double suicides from happening every day.
I literally logged in just to show my disgust at this comment....Parents need free time, too. And it's possible that the grandparents WANT to see their grandchild and ASKED to (maybe once a week or something) take the kid to dinner/the park/wherever. Ffs What an ignorant comment....
I had AFKs in every single one of my 3 last placement games, lost all of them after 6-1 on the others... pretty frustrating
I had one guy go on a rant about how is mom never lets him play a full game, and then AFK on me.
I've had people state many, many reasons for their AFK (most of the time rage-induced) but never that one, hahaha.
There are a lot of people these days who just don't care about how they're affecting other people. But yeah, if they leave too often, they get a LeaverBuster ban, and if you report them after the game if they left for a small enough amount of time and describe in the report what happened, Riot can take care of the problem.
So many people don't report though as well...
More like too stupid to look at the time before starting a game.
well i'm 12 and sometimes things are out of controll like my bro not telling me he has a raid at 9
well i'm 12
Summoning Rito with the ban stick for a ToS violation (you have to be 13 to play; this one isn't under Riot's control.)
I believe that the US actually DOES allow under-13s to use online services with adult supervision. In some cases this comes down to a signed consent form or the parent completing the registration, because it's technically a contract. So it is technically under Riot's control, but not a big deal either way, really.
(All of these comments deal with the US form of the law, known as Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The European Union has a similar law, but I don't know the exact specifics of it.)
13-17 is consent from the parent.
Under 13 is much more strict in the collection, notification, and disposal of information provided, as well as some information needing to proactively be given to parents.
Yes, Riot could technically allow under 13's. But the level of oversight and activity required to allow it is usually too great for a service that can just set the minimum at 13 and wash their hands of the under 13 requirements.
Some parents are strict. I'm 16 and still have a computer curfew of 9:00 PM. Doesn't mean I shouldn't play League.
Just means you shouldn't start a ranked game after 8:00 PM, 7:30 PM if you want to be sure.
8:00/7:30? It's possible to get into the game in 5 minutes and it's possible to win a game in 20 minutes or less. I'd possibility be missing 2 or 3 games trying to do that. No, people have to remember that it's a game and that it's not the person's fault; it's the parents.
