He gets resets, it's much better making it so the enemy dies instantly, instead of having to wait a bit to use it. The build you're describing sounds like a AD yi instead of AS yi, I find yi fine to beat, unless he's fed with a botrk. He can easily be locked down and killed. He's generally a squishy champion, killing people faster makes it so you have more invulnerability time. Tank yi sounds weak to me.
It's not really tank Yi. More like bruisery Yi, I get my main dmg items and then switch to items that help me survive because now I'm able to melt everything. And it's not new, most high elo Yi players don't go glasscannon. The thing is you can have insane damage with 2-3 items, and the rest can be bruisery.
Usual combinations being :
old school botrk/youmuu
rageblade tank
for lane Yi
And then you just go for defensive items
are all good examples.
A build based on crit costs more gold, takes more time to scale, making you weak for a long period. Also it doesn't have the best synergy with sated. You'd kinda need 4 items to really be through with it
(because you basically need attack speed, decent critchance, AD, lifesteal and arpen. If you got sated, that leaves you with 0 defensive items. Which.. sucks, as in, it's too risky).
Just check out

Or go for lolskill to see the highest ranked Yi mains, see what they build.
Not saying that we should "copy the high elos", just that if it exists, there's obviously a reasoning behind it. Saying bruiser Yi is bad is like saying pretty much every good Yi player is wrong in their builds. That's kind of a big statement.
