Don't Nerf Ahri's Charm

DyIIionaire··6 votes·1,821 views

Ahri has been my favorite champion since I started playing this game. I've stuck with her through all of the meta changes and all of her nerfs, but now I'm putting my foot down.

To start things off, this nerf makes no sense. Why punish good Ahri players for having enough knowledge and skill to predict dashes/jumps? Landing skill shots are supposed to feel rewarding. Ever since the removal of Death Fire Grasp, and the damage amplifier on her charm, Ahri's E has felt unrewarding and almost useless in lane. Charm has a very high mana cost early and does very minimal damage. I remember back when her charm amplified her damage, I was always finding ways and angles to hit that charm on my opponent and chunk a good portion of their health. It always felt satisfying and like her charm had a purpose. Nowadays, I rarely see a point to throw out a charm in lane because it will only change the damage output of her typical E, Q, W combo very slightly. What's the point of wasting my mana when I can just throw Q's occasionally and wait for my jungler to show up? Her Charm used to define her as a champion and her kit. Now it's just... there.

Secondly, Ahri's charm animation has a slight cast time, travels at a reasonable speed, and can not be cast through minions. There's already several ways to avoid it including dashes, jumps, blinks, Quick Silver Sash and Cleanse. An Ahri player who successfully predicts a jump or dash should not be penalized for out smarting their enemy. This nerf seems small but I feel like it is going to have giant ramifications for skilled Ahri players. I agree that Ahri is too safe of a champion but there are other ways to nerf this. For example, you could make her Q movement speed scaling or increase the cool down of her ultimate.

If this Ahri nerf goes through then I feel she NEEDS to be compensated in some way just like Veigar was. Maybe increase the scaling on her Q and E? Ahri's scalings are very low and if they were increased it would make her late game feel much more meaningful. If not that then add back the damage amplifier on her charm but at 10% not 20%. If not any of those suggestions then just please do something. Her damage is already lacking in early and late game.

I would really appreciate it if a Rioter would discuss this with me or try to further explain the reasoning behind the nerf. Sincerely, A concerned Ahri main

Why are ap mages being nerfed while ad assaisn are insane right now? Doesn't make any sense.

Because ahri was never insane.

Are there changes coming in the PBE? I recently made a post about ahri advice I would love to chat with you about her.

i see 0 ahri nerfs on pbe. . . wtf are you talking about.

DyIIionaire1 votes

There have been tweets from people at riot about it. They are planning on making it to where Ahri's charm no longer interrupts dashes or jumps.

Atanchan1 votes

That's really more of a consistency pass than a nerf, even if it does weaken her in some contexts.

DyIIionaire1 votes

Even so, it is going to make her gameplay feel increasingly less rewarding.

Considering that literally every other forced action effect doesn't cancel dashes, I can only imagine that affects you and a small percentage of other Ahri players, as everyone else wasn't even aware of that inconsistency or figured it was a bug.

Look up.

... ?

You listed a whole bunch of a champions that don't have forced action effects, and two champions that DO have one ... that don't cancel dashes.

They both do have a displacement effect on an entirely different spell, but those don't force you to make a movement action or any sort of action at all - they just move you directly.

Actually, said effects can be flat-out undone by a delayed dash, since dashed do actually override displacements. Granted, I think the only champion that had a true delayed dash was Tristana, and they removed that with her rework.

You do know there are only a very small handful of champions in the game with similar interactions as her charm, right?

By the by, I happen to play all of them.

Shaco Stops dashes with boxes. Can negate Shyvana + Vi + Zac and all sorts of other fun things you mention.

Nocturne Can do the same thing, only it's tricky and that the fear has to pop at theexact moment the dash takes place and thus can stop it all together. Most people flash + dash and get feared due to inconsistent timing though.

Fiddlesticks Is about the only one that can't really stop any dashes, but honestly if he could with fear he'd be pick ban.

Then you move back to Ahri.

The only champ in the game with a "charm." She is the only champ in the game with a cc that slows people and forces them to walk towards her. By right it's an exclusive cc only accessible by her ((See Poppy)) as far as I'm concerned charm cancels all other actions and forces people to walk towards her, even if that means cancelling dashes.

Frankly if you get hit by charm in this day in age of the game you deserve to have your shit canceled and be killed lol.

If you were to nerf charm there'd be literally 0 reason to pick this champ over someone like

Diana whose already two tiers above Ahri in game carrying potential. Or Viktor Whose straight up S class and does everything you mention in charm, only aoe to a whole team and then stuns them + does aoe damage + silences and can 100 -0 an entire team with just two items lol.

Huh. If that's true, Riot should probably know about those two.

As far as I'm concerned Riot's balancing capabilities are shit and I'm okay with Ahri's charm + shaco boxes + nocturnes fear.

I spent about a half hour talking to a rioter regarding Kindred's game breaking bugs with her E + her marks and he basically just told me "oh well." Sooo as far as I'm concerned the bugs can stay. 'Cause you know "oh well."

I agree completely that Ahri's charm is unique. Yes, it acts as a taunt which other champions possess but her taunt is different. It not only forces people to walk towards her, it's even in the description that they walk HARMLESSLY* towards her. Other champions like Shen and Rammus, with their taunts, they will still be damaged by auto attacks of the person they're taunting. An exception needs to be made with Ahri because her charm is unique to only her.

lol.

That would make her trash tier.

Diana Blitzcrank Thresh Anivia Janna Braum Azir Elise Renekton RekSai Quinn Rammus Shaco Shyvana Tristana Viktor Velkoz Urgot XinZhao Yasuo Xerath MonkeyKing Volibear Ziggs Zyra Trundle Sion Skarner Nami Nautilus Orianna Pantheon JarvanIV Jayce Kalista Galio Gnar Gragas Hecarim

Can interrupt dashes and jumps.

Contrary to popular opinion Ahri really isn't that good. She is easily shut down by almost all of the fotm champs and outclassed in more ways than one. nerfing her would just be another reason not to pick her.

If they dont nerf Ahri's charm, then they need to remove something in her kit. Removing the movement speed buff on her Q seems like a good start.

DyIIionaire1 votes

That is a very fair point, I agree that she is way too safe of a champion right now. How ever removing something completely from her kit I think would be unhealthy to her gameplay. Reducing her movement speed at early levels from her Q would make it a little more fair.

Well, it was only a matter of time, they nerf her, and I always wondered, what they would nerf. This change will be a nerf, and certainly not a small/irrelevant one (for anyone claiming that: No, it's not only about the laning-phase, but also about Junglers and teamfighting. It really takes away a tool that was useful in every stage of the game), but what can you say? It is justified, considering the statistics, that she gets nerfed, and also justified, to bring the spell in line with other CC.

I'm sure, it will impact her quite a lot, but we should wait and see. It is not like this one change going to make her unplayable, and even if, then you could always increase her dmg/scalings a bit as compensation. Although I think, it will eradicate Ahris presence in Pro-Play completely. Because the sole reason she is picked, is for the fact, that you can do well in every matchup and almost all compositions, so it's really safe, to go with the Ahri-Blindpick. Even against the Leblanc-Counter it was a Skill-Matchup with the Mid-Dash-Charm. Now thats gone (enemy will just pick LB and dumpster her in Lane), and since Ahri isn't really used as a Counterpick against any specific Champions, there will be other Champs picked for the safe-Blindpick. Might actually be the reason, why they are nerfing VIktor? So he doesn't become instantly the "To-go-Midlane Blindpick" ^^

Or maybe it's because shes too strong.

Ereldra1 votes

Not sure, what you are trying to say? Are you referring to why she is picked in Pro-Play? Then your statement is... well, kinda strange. Of course she is strong. They usually don't pick weak Champions, do they?^^ But there are very different reasons, why champions are strong and why they are picked up. No one is gonna pick Ahri for her super-lategame dmg or something like, because there are other champions, who bring a lot more of that. I'm pretty sure, if you rewatch this seasons Pick-and-Ban-Phases, the occasions, where she got picked, are in the vast majority cases, where they had to blindpick their midlaner.

If this Ahri nerf goes through then I feel she NEEDS to be compensated in some way just like Veigar was.

I assure you, you do NOT want the Veigar compensation.
