Ancient Coin Changes Seem Like a Major Nerf
The main point of the ancient coin was that it was the safest support item option. It gave you a lot of health over time, and didn't require you to go up to try to auto enemy champions or melee enemy minions. You could stay back and play safe on Janna or Soraka, etc. When I buy spellthief's on these champions I tend to die at least one more time per game because I put myself in danger trying to earn gold with spelltheif's then get Blitz hooked or whatever.
Now the new coin doesn't seem to give any health regen, instead giving mana (which you don't' really need on Soraka or Janna, and Soraka definitely needs health). But worst of all, you have to walk up to the enemy minion line to collect the coins, leaving you vulnerable to enemy skillshots and auto harass. Squishy ranged supports don't want to walk into auto range of the enemy ADC, and they certainly don't want to walk towards Leona/Thresh/Blitz, etc. So if you're playing a passive support into an aggressive support, where you can't safely get spellthief's procs or walk up and pick up coins, what are you supposed to do? Buy targon's and try to last hit with 50 AD?
I'm not going to comment about the quest things, as they won't really have an impact in laning phase, besides encouraging support to die or take bad trades trying to pick up coins/relic stacks/spellthiefs procs.
will just have to switch to spell thief and loose even harder now.
