Jungle Bard. Let's Discuss.

So, I've seen some people get really excited about this new character, Bard, and some people get really excited about taking him to the jungle. I had to stop and ask myself, why? What do people see in him that makes him a decent enough jungle to have fun with him there? I'm coming to you guys to discuss this with me.

Key point, by the way, is that he doesn't have to be good, he just has to not suck, so people can take him there as a fun pick and not a troll pick. For instance, right now, Diana isn't a good jungler (thanks to the jungle changes), but she's good enough there that those of us who enjoy her can still take her there and not be reported for troll picks.

Here's my argument against it, and the assumptions which I have to make.

  • He has only 2 damaging abilities, counting his passive, so, unless his base damage is awesome, or his abilities are on really short cooldown, his clear is going to be very slow.
  • He's got one pre-6 soft CC, which is situationally hard, and his ult is a sub-par type of CC to be applying to enemies (Stasis can run all kinds of damage mitigation problems, not to mention accidental (or intentional. Trolololol) friendly fire). He likely doesn't bring damage to the fight, and he doesn't reliably bring quality CC either, SO...
  • He's got some awesome mobility, so he'll have no trouble getting there, but I wonder what he'll be able to do once he's there?

So, what's your thoughts, GD, on whether bard will be good enough in the jungle for people to be able to take him there if they want to have some fun while not being a troll pick. I think that he will be like Veigar or Ryze or Braum jungle. You really just can't without knowing that you'll be so far behind as to be a liability to the team.

Don't think he'll work out well in the jungle, pretty low damage, while his sustain SEEMS somewhat decent on paper im not sure if its enough.

The question is in the end, does Riot want him jungling? God forbid we have another Jungle Alistar terror.

Even if he could jungle, im not sure Riot would want him to (effortless turret dives at level 6, the agony)

In the reveal, they actually reference the fact that they wanted Allister to be a roaming support, and intentionally nerfed his jungling abilities to force him back into support. I can totally imagine this happening to Bard.

Jungle bard has: AoE damage crazy sustain The ability to gank from the river entrances near the turret hard CC (that deals damage) the ability to freeze a gank (R) if it goes bad, or ensure a gank succeeds.

Jungle bard would for sure be an AP-bruiser type jungler, building A-pen and resistences. Seraphs embrace actually goes really well with bard.

He would be a niche jungler, thats for certain, but his jungle is potentially very strong. He ALSO wouldnt have to leave behind an ally to get his chimes, and could pull an udyr just to farm chimes.

Jungle or top bard would be fun, but jungle bard would be more difficult.

That AOE damage is a pretty hard sell. It's 2 targeted, so the birds and wolves would probably be his longest camps to clear.

Also, as said, his CC can be hard, but it's not only a skillshot, but requires there to be something behind or in front of the enemy in order to stun. It's probably not hard to pull off in practice, but it's still not reliable enough. It would also be nice to know the slow % if it doesn't stun.

His passive would be much more easily farmed, so points there.
