Current state of Grevious Wounds applying items is horrible
Playing against an enemy with morellonomicon or executioner's calling feels extremely opressive and lacks counterplay. The cost and slot efficiency of those items is huge when their passives are put to use.
Morellonomicon is an item so gold and slot efficient it is bought even when GW are not going to impact a single champion in enemy team. If a champion has morello as it is core they would not even need to change their build to hard counter enemy sustain.
Its GW passive also lasts 8 seconds which is unreasonibly long, far longer than time required to kill someone with less than 35% of max hp left.
Executioner's Calling is even worse, its cost allows it to be purchased at first recall and then it can be left in this state until owner needs to upgrade it. The passive is mindblowing... unlike morellonomicon it literally lacks even smallest counterplay. The owner is allowed to focus on a target, apply GW as long as they are attacking them, and after a kill they can repeat the process with the exact same effectivness. On top of that lack of CD on that passive gives absolutely no opportunities for unreduced healing in fight with execall.
Execall and MR are so poweful they make ignite obsolete. In fact GW from MR lasts as long as ignite but it can be reapplied again and even applied to multiple champions at the same time.
Execall's passive also generates heavy abuse case if it is used with certain abilities like Jhin's R or any multitarget PhD ability. Seeing GW being applied from a random hit of Sivir's W or Jhin shooting with R from afar is really demoralising and adds to uninteractivity.
In many games there are multiple GW items bought just because of a single enemy that relies on healing. I had countless games when enemy team ended up with 3 Mortal Reminders and Morelonomicon only because of that one champion.
To fix this passives could be reworked into ignite-like actives with meaningful CD's allowing one person to counter only one enemy once and also give them chance for unreduced healing in fight when item is on CD, or there could be released a GW mitigating mechanic in spirit of armor pen countering armor stack.
. I'm still all for it being in the game though because it is often times the only thing that allows you to kill certain champs like already mentioned
. If someone can just sustain through everything it becomes impossible to kill them.
You just need to auto attack.
