Idea for Sightstone

For supports late game, and anyone going a more support oriented path, is there any way we could get a Sightstone that upgrades with a Cloth Armor or a Null Magic Mantle? Possibly a further upgrade to Ruby Sightstone? This would allow for more supports to be able to itemize a little bit more defense into their builds, since they mostly get aura and active items for their team which may not always be what they need. It would also allow junglers who pick up a Sightstone to be able to get more than just the bit of health and wards. I could even see Sightstone have more build paths like boots, Amplifying Tome or Long Sword build paths as well, to make so more people would be able to take advantage of it, and allow the team to have more vision in the extreme late game. Usually, at that point, trinkets are almost all sweepers, and only the support really has wards going down at that point.

Not sure I'm a fan of armor + MR + hp on the same item, but as far as sightstone buffs go, Rito Plz!

Creating the 3-ward limit was fantastic. It made supports more than ward machines. But it also means that when people get to 6 item builds, only the people with sightstone or jungle item ward anymore - ie, the supports, and lee sin.

In a game where vision control is so important, as every high elo player will tell you, we shouldn't be discouraged from warding just because we hit full build.

Maybe this means we need sightstone buffs. Maybe it means we need more items with wards attached to them. Either way, I hope it's a situation that Riot considers remedying.

This goes back to the bigger issue, we have such a horrendous lack of items that it just isn't funny. We have a lack of real support items, sure we have some Gold Production items for supports, but aside from that, as you said, it's actives and auras. Mages all use primarily the same build path; Marksmen, same build path; Junglers, primarily the same build path among other junglers like them (tanky vs tanky, damage vs damage etc).

The simple fact is, we have a multitude of items in game, most of which never see use anymore because they're not "optimal". League has become "what's the optimal build path" instead of "which build path works for my playstyle?"

We need more items so we can have differing builds, so that we can play OUR game, and not whatever the pros are playing this week.

Just my opinion. I may do an in depth thread on the subject at some point.

the other option that I had though of earlier this week, though I haven't posted it anywhere, is to get rid of Sightstone all together and instead make the ward trinket upgrade into its current pink version or sightstone.

I would love if Sightstone did more than just health and wards. I often wait until I'm fully built to buy a Ruby Sightstone. 800g for 1 more ward and 250 health... It just isn't meaningful enough to buy for me. If for instance it did:

2300g (Sightstone + 1500g)

400 Health 35 Armor 10 HP5

or something similar to that, I could actually get some armor on a non-tank support without feeling like I have just extended the amount of time to my next major item, and I'd want to buy it.

That s a very good idea, like sightstone can be upgraded to most stats like boots by adding a cloth armor, Null Magic Mantle, Dagger, Boots, long sword, ruby crystal, or amp tome. It would add utility to the build paths to best suit your playstyle, comp, and enemy comp. This would just increase the skill level of build paths slightly and change up the game a bit!

I agree that some changes need to be done. Riot's intentions for Season 4 was to have the support (and jungle) role be more defined and meaningful. I think haven't changes to their staple item would really help that happen.

I asked this to Ghostcrawler when he replied to me two weeks ago. He didn't respond. I don't expect Riot will read or respond to this although it makes sense to turn Ruby sighstone into a cost and inventory efficient item. It would also help make supports stop being the first target that dies in a fight. That's why people love Braum because he can live for a little while in a fight.

I think it would lead to the point, that everyone would buy the item, and noone would consider buying a normal ward. Which would make the "visiongame" less important... if you know what i mean.

Perhaps its time for the swift scout Teemo to start his magic again??

I am quite excited to see if riot does redo stats on the items such as the Ruby/Sight stone.
