Many in Runeterra fear Urgot, but ironically, those in charge of balance do as well.
*Disclaimer: I am not saying Urgot needs nerfs or buffs. I am simply stating a phenomenon I have noticed.
Since the fiasco at LCS with Urgot soloing two champs in bot, Riot's balance team has always feared Urgot. The most common way people deal with their apprehensions is to ignore them and that is what Riot did to Urgot (mostly) until 2015 where he received QoL changes. In 2016 he received the fear to his ult, but Riot was too paranoid to let this change be singular. They were worried that the change would, "Put him over the edge" so they made his shield only last for 5 seconds instead of 8, and they made his passive become a three proc system where each hit reducing damage by 5/10/15%; they kept the former and not the latter. Adding a fear to an ultimate for a champion who was around a 46% winrate with 0.3% playrate (and at these numbers for a long time), they were too afraid to just give him a buff-a buff that didn't even feed into his invisible passive or his toxic EQQQ combo.
Let's look at Urgot today. Regarding the rework, during the Q&A on reddit, a Rioter expressed their concern with a marksmen juggernaut and erred on the side of caution when formulating the balance of his kit. To me it is understandable that Riot would do this, for after all these are uncharted waters. Perhaps this is Urgot's curse, always being a champion with a "unique" play-style. It kinda sucks, waiting for a rework for so long, a rework that should fix this apprehension, just to see Riot holding back punches again.
Readability Issues
Of course some changes I think Urgot could use are readability changes. Urgot has a lot going on his kit that involves feeling. You have to feel how you farm with the shotgun knees. You have to add your auto attack, the base damage of the knees, the percent health damage, savagery, ect.. There is the range of the knees. I'm not saying to give indicators for these for 6 legs would require a lot of information. Then there is the fear on his ult. I think a second circle should be given to shew the fear range like they did with Urgot's old ult. There is also no timer for the "Purge/Lock on" mechanic. Some of Urgot's core mechanics requires the player to feel their way around him. Clarity is always welcomed.
