Can We Talk About Twisted Treeline?
So I love Twisted Treeline. Like, a lot. But it is suffering given Riot's favoritism to Summoner's Rift and other things. Twisted Treeline is a great mode, very unique, and the design of the Treeline is a great contrast to the Rift. I love playing TT with small groups of friends or even just queuing up because I'm sick of playing SR constantly.
I want to list some problems plaguing Twisted Treeline and I invite a Rioter to comment on this thread freely with their thoughts regarding the current state and possible future of the map.
- The map is created with the same 'paintover' technology that Summoner's Rift is made with, right? Then why has there been no Snowdown or Blood Moon version of Twisted Treeline like there was for the Rift? Riot themselves said that they developed new software that would allow them to easily edit the textures of the Rift, which before had been an impossibility. Why not extend that to it's sister map?
- There are some things Twisted Treeline has shown with age that have been corrected or added to SR seasons ago. For starters, Vilemaw doesn't make a sound on death, which is a bit odd. All of the Elemental Dragons, Rift Herald, Baron, and Elder Dragon make separate, distinct sounds when killed.
- The jungle is outdated. It still has monsters from before the Summoner's Rift update 3 years ago. Hell, I'll re-texture Brambleback and Sentinel to be spookier myself if it means seeing the Treeline jungle updated.
- There are some really strange glitches. For instance, the outer towers can see and reach into the jungle outside their lane into some bushes. That's a little.... strange. And you can also buy items when not on the the summoning platform by just standing in front of it next to your Nexus. It's unpolished, and these are easily fixable bugs.
- The bots. Dear God, the bots. I'm convinced almost 70% of all players who queue up for TT are computers. And the only reason this has happened is because they all moved from Dominion and the Rift when Dominion went offline and SR got new bot-busting programs. Actual fans of TT hate to play it because you are guaranteed to get a bot on your team unless you queue up in 3's. Just apply the same bot protocol from SR to TT and I promise you queue health and popularity will increase.
- And finally, lots of recent champions have been made exclusively with Summoner's Rift in mind. Champions like
,
, and
all work much better on SR, even though it doesn't have to be that way. Ivern can't share buffs, Taliyah's worked earth is much worse on Treeline, and Kindred's marks still don't make sense off the Rift. Small adjustments to champion health on different maps can go such a long way.
