Honest question: What would Riot have to do to make you quit playing League?

Beached Manatee·2/3/2020, 3:27:57 AM·60 votes·44,635 views

This question goes out to everyone, whether you play 100 games a day or maybe one a month. Out of all of the things Riot would realistically do, what would make you quit? Or, if you've already quit, why did you quit?

I'll start. I quit around the time of the mess that was the Harrowing/Worlds/Afterparty event. I was sick of bad buy-in events and special edition super limited!!!! cosmetics such as the event only golden chromas and the release only ruby chromas. Plus Runes Reforged was fresh and terrible and supports were being stomped down due to the Ardent Meta. I prefer off-meta for the whimsy and fun that you can achieve by catching people off guard as well as changing up playstyles, but it was the damage meta we're now rotting in. The most efficient choice was the highest damage choice and that's all it is. Towers are now just piles of gold that you defend to keep enemies off of, since they don't hit hard enough to stop dives and are so weak they crumple like tissue paper. I couldn't really quit forever because I used to love this game. I joined around when Jinx/Braum were released (I can't remember) and I had a blast. I had a strong friend group who got weened off by the meta. Plus, I spent like 3000-4000$ on skins so no way in HELL am I letting that go to waste. The game makes me sad because I want to enjoy it. But it just isn't enjoyable.

  • I split my time between LoL and Bloodline champions, until Bloodline effectively became vaporware (then later became steam exclusive).
  • I split my time between SR and Dominion, until Dominion got... Dominioned.
  • I mostly dropped LoL for Dawngate, then came back when Dawngate got EA'ed.
  • I mostly dropped LoL for Gigantic, then came back when Gigantic shut down.
  • I experimented with SMITE when it came out, but never really got into it.
  • I experimented with Chaos Heroes Online, but never really got into it (Then it went offline).
  • HoN was all but dead by the time I heard about it.
  • Strife Never really made it off the ground.
  • Tried Paragon(?), but dear RNGesus was that game slow. Season 2 Ward cheering was faster than that. By the time I heard about the Speed-up overhaul, the game was already shut-down and the assets publicly released.
  • I dropped SR for TT. . . 3 year ago?
  • Mostly dropped LoL for HotS. Then Blizzard gutted the dev team and cut e-sports leading to a slow and painful death.
  • Now TT is gone, RGM is gone, and I don't care much about SR any more. So my time is pretty much split between HotS and ARAM.

Why do I keep leaving league?

  • Because it's become a stale cycle of similar ideas and poor innovation for the last 10(?) years.

So what keeps bringing me back to League?

  • A lack of quality competition in the MOBA market.

Mess up until competition makes a better moba. Or alternatively, fail to evolve the game to outperform a new competitor to the moba scene.

Nothing. They've had their chances to retain me as a customer, but the continuous stupid decisions regarding balance and gameplay has gone on for too long.

After URF ends I'm fucking off.

My playtime has been in decline ever since Malzahar got reworked as there is not a single champion in the game that was similar to old Malzahar.

And don't even @ me with "jUsT pLaY aNoThEr dOt cHaMpIoN!"

Its not the same feeling. Get outta here with that BS.

mirAcIe2/3/2020, 10:55:50 AM6 votes

They already did it xd Mainly, reworked my main (Evelynn) without any respect to the old playerbase. Other than that? Idk, game just doesn't feel that exciting. It used to seem like less of a coinflip, even if it wasn't true. Matchmaking feels like it favors a certain team even before the champselect with how they put certain players against each other.

give me another hobby to do when im at home bored

Baby Ghoul2/3/2020, 10:42:59 AM6 votes

Riot would make me quit if they kept this boring AF engage support meta going through Spring and into Summer.

I'm already over it.

Nautilus, Blitzcrank, and Leona are the worst offenders. I never thought I'd miss getting hit by Thresh's broken hook hitbox every other game, but getting hit with a Nautilus Q when you completely dodged it visually will cause an out of body experience.

The meta bot lane has been BS since the removal of Sightstone, but at least with mage supports I could actually do stuff against them as brainless as they are.

You have to wait for engage supports to burn their engage otherwise you get blown up, so you're stuck there exchanging light harass and staring at each other. It's so annoying having to wait for your opponent to make a move. Your jungler can't help you either, and more than likely the enemy jungler is going to camp your lane.

It's even worse if both of you are tryhards playing tanky supports because neither of you will be able to kill the other unless a Blitzcrank is dumb enough to pull a Leona into the ADC.

Gath Immortal2/3/2020, 3:50:48 PM6 votes

I quit 5 years ago because the design and balance was trash, and it's clearly only gotten worse, at this point ARAM is the only reason to play league and I have almost no desire to buy skins because most of them are boring rehashed robot skins or part of a pre-existing skin line and makes the game look more and more homogenous.

steven45474662/7/2020, 9:10:59 PM5 votes

Already on edge. Their general disrespect to their community and toxic behavior towards their player base get's real fucking annoying. The amount of downvote bots on the board right now (sorry about that, this post is currently at 0 score so I thought I'd throw that in) and they don't seem to care.

If another competitive game becomes more popular than this I would probably start playing that one more. I like the characters and the universe in league A LOT, my favorite by far, but the gameplay has become so fast paced, instagib, and tilt inducing that I can't really enjoy playing it. I'm part of a jv college team so I have to play it a lot but the elo im at and the champion balance makes it feel so unsatisfying. Its kinda hard to put my finger on it but It has to do with the shift from sustained dps to burst, and hard tank stats to lifesteal/spellvamp. Every champion feels like a burst cheeser, with pretty much every one of them killing in a single rotation. The ones that don't aren't meta. The tankiest champions right now are the ones that abuse conquerer and other drain stats. Lane isn't methodical anymore, you don't need to poke, you either wait till you one shot them or wait for the jg to help one shot them. I just want the tank meta back, with the change that tanks don't one shot like they did in the last tank meta.

It's sad to see that lots of new players are joining but the OGs are leaving the game bit by bit. In my opinion, I think that I would quit if Riot stops listening to the community. But, for now, they're doing really well! Keep it up Riot!

I almost quit League when they reworked Urgot.

Lazypeon1002/3/2020, 3:43:41 AM3 votes

I picked 4, which is fairly accurate. I already quit for like, 3 years and came back a few months ago. I left due to game's community (only so many times I enjoyed being told to drink bleach at the time) and because I was genuinely bored. If I'm not enjoying something that is supposed to be fun, I simply won't play it.

Edit: Been playing since right before Nautilus release IIRC.

The Dreamwalker2/3/2020, 9:56:56 PM3 votes

They would have to either delete my main, or rework her into unplayable garbage. MissFortune

NY642/3/2020, 4:27:33 AM3 votes

I think what would make me quit league is if they nerfed the supports I play into oblivion and force me to play champions I don’t enjoy. Right now as a support main, I feel like I’m forced to only play Nautilus and Leona. I enjoy them both a lot but I get sick of only playing. I want to go back to playing enchanters but if I do I either deal with assassins doing so much damage I can’t peel for ADC’s, I get one shot so I’m not even alive to peel because I stepped 2mm closer to assist someone, or Nautilus, Blitzcrank or Leona are picked and one hook is instant death.

Princess Bunhead2/7/2020, 5:55:26 PM3 votes

I just uninstalled today after I haven't played in about two months, while also feeling overall more content in my free time. I still watch lol vids at times, though.

This game has gone to absolute shit, with this dmg dashy fuckfest it has become. Fuck Riot and their incompetence/greed.

Also, as someone else mention in here, fuck them for reworking Malzahar the way they did... "Wasn't healthy"... MY ASS. Look at all the fucking no-counterplay dmg dashy shit you've release after that, Riot.

Bring back in Morello as balance lead, and follow his previous examples with the allmighty nerfbat, instead of dmg, DMG, DMG!!!

Julevi2/3/2020, 8:53:30 AM3 votes

Most likely if they keep their whole report/punishment system like it is without any bigger reforms. Not enough transparency for me, too many cases of incredible toxicity which didn't get punished (hate-speech, inting/trolling) - in my opinion Riot doesn't put enough effort in an enriching communication with their playerbase.

Dotty LB2/10/2020, 2:42:16 AM3 votes

They just have to keep doing what they've been doing

Duskdemon2/9/2020, 9:42:22 PM3 votes

I’m closer than ever to leaving after they nerfed Sett into the ground while leaving mages and assassins and adcs with their million damage combos and two dozen gap closers and escapes untouched.

Ranked is a complete joke. During my promos I had 4 games with an AFK and was placed really low. So now in about 70% of my games I have double the cs as everyone else and have a highly positive K/D/A.... yet I can't out carry my bot lane that goes 4/24. There is an afk in approximately 10% of the games and there is very frequently a player who is "having a bad game." People have bad games all the time but if you don't adjust your decisions and purchases to accommodate that I 100% consider it inting. And low and behold the 2/12 top laner who is dieing to a fed quinn has bought no armor. Riot after 10 years has simply not improved something that is so incredibly simple. Literally eliminate ranked matches for all players that go below a certain threshhold. That threshhold will be based on CS, KDA, Warding, Vision score, and other parameters. We set the bar high for sports with a rigorous try-out process why not for this as well? Oh well rant over gg all

freeformline2/3/2020, 7:38:42 AM2 votes

I stopped playing regularly in preseason 6 when I walked into lane as a Soraka and got 100-0'd by a single rotation from the enemy Lux support at level 3. Basically, the moment Riot overhauled runes and masteries, the game became bursty enough that I no longer enjoyed playing it, except when playing with friends in voice chat. I still play a bit every now and then to see how it's doing, but it's just not the game I loved anymore.

It also doesn't help that they've reworked or outright replaced most of my favorite champions and scrapped lots of my favorite lore, so I have no reason to trust that they'll keep anything I like around long enough for me to justify getting invested again.

RIP funny Urgot. I'll never forget you, you glorious walking disaster.

Honestly, all it would take to make me come back again is for the game to be fun again. All it would probably take is reducing damage across the board back down to season 5 levels or thereabouts. I'd never be invested as I was and probably wouldn't spend money on the game again, but I'd be back to filling out those sweet, sweet support and jungle positions for Riot and the community.

GFREEMEN2/3/2020, 7:45:43 AM2 votes

It was not in game issues that made me quit.

It was being board band for the second time for posting GAMEPLAY related posts in GAMEPLAY board that just happened to be negative in Riots eyes even tho it was upvoted 40+ and had actual discussion about the issue.

Sick and tired of newbs writting me this without giving me a reason LUL

YaraOwO2/3/2020, 8:14:24 PM2 votes

They would have to revert Akali see it be much more balanceable and then return her to her post reworked state. Like if they fuck up that bad nothing is impossible for them to ruin.

I agree to every thing.

Love the game, ( community can use some work)

But towers need a overhaul I get riot wants to make the games faster pace but come on Tower damage needs to be more punishing. It's been said for ever. how do you add a Rune that Does Increased damage to towers which i must say was a great idea! but not buff the towers damage, to compensate for this

Velasan2/4/2020, 6:03:48 AM2 votes

I would say I'm about at the quitting point right now. I would not have said that earlier. Originally was just figuring I would dial back my play time and be more casual. I was hoping this season would be different after so much time has passed to get things in order.

However, this season they have not made any attempt at fixing any of the issues the game has had for over two seasons. I don't know what their current vision for the game is, and while some people might enjoy this version of it I don't.

They have made it abundantly clear that the game is moving away from what I like to play and how I like to play it. This meta of no vision and constant battling by running into people in bushes is not fun for me.

Was fun while it lasted.

I quit around half a decade ago after playing the first 5 seasons every day all day long, religiously. I was down to 4 or 5 fav champs who were not totally reworked from 6 to 10 years ago and suddenly Riot changed my Hud I was so normalized to in like... was it season 5-ish? I felt physically ILL trying to relearn it and i was already pissed about all the Attack Damage versions of "Veigar" type nukes... I remember when attack damage was attack damage and wasn't as terrifying as the spellcasters who would 1-shot people! With AD nukes throwing out 1000+ dmg combos in the blink of an eye it feels like the game is just too "fast-paced" for me. This game seems designed for new young players rather than their OG old players. Everything became faster and faster and more and more stressful until it no longer was fun and instead became a heart-attack that I couldn't just sit down and enjoy. All this for the glorified "Challenging content" "exciting gameplay" bah! the point of repetitively training in a game is to get better at it. Therefore every time a champion I am good at gets reworked I feel like I was punished for totally training myself to a particular playstyle. On top of that I only have a few playstyles I can enjoy playing and every rework tends to make me feel like Riot is taking my enjoyment away due to a playstyle change. I understand they are trying to make a specific type of game for challenger-level players but that's the 1%...

If they got rid of the ability to play with a premade. I rarely play the game anymore because I hate relying on a team of strangers. I only play when my friends are getting on too these days.

All it would take for a majority of the people to quit would be a game more comparable to ealier seasons of league. I just need a game that can keep me interested for more then a few weeks.

TommyTickler2/8/2020, 6:40:06 PM2 votes

I permanently quit after having a game where our support came into my jungle and shadowed me to steal my camps from level 1 for no apparent reason other to be an asshole.

I never use the chat function. But on that one occasion I finally broke my silence with a "what is your fucking problem?". Later that day I get a chat restriction.

I've always had a problem at Riots punishment system and have been a big advocate for the system itself being at the core of the games toxicity. So when I received my punishment I dropped the game like a sack of shit knowing full well that blitzcrank would never receive punishment.

I was about to quit anyway since 8/10 games would be a waste of time due to trolls/afkers, just that was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

Played since season 1.
