6/12 PBE Update

So, I was looking at the new surrender@20 page after someone made a mention of some Elise changes, I saw an interesting new item in the changes. This item is currently in the PBE. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3oQJlFnn_ys/VXtPaPSlLzI/AAAAAAAAraA/fegel4UE3xc/s320/runegl.jpg Enchantment: Runeglaive 2250g [Sheen + Jungle Item + 200g] +40 AP +200 Mana +10% CDR UNIQUE Passive - Spellblade: After using an ability, the next basic attack is converted into magic damage and deals 75% Base Attack Damage (+30% of Ability Power) bonus magic damage on hit in an AoE around the target (1.5 second cooldown). When attacking a monster, this also restores 6% of your missing Mana."

So, I thought this was a pretty interesting change and I wanted to hear everyones feelings on the new jungle item.

I don't like that it has half the AP and CDR of Magus. I'd prefer it be a little more expensive and give some more stats.

That said the Mana and Passive are freaking awesome. One of the biggest reasons why I think we don't see AP junglers anymore is they have to use all their mana on jungle camps and can't gank to their full potential. I don't think its powerful enough to shift the meta but it is a step in the right direction.

I was pretty sad that it's got a much lower PA ratio than Lich Bane, but now that I realize it's AoE... I dunno, I still think it's a little weak. Cinderhulk helps tanks clear, but you never wonder whether or not it justifies its slot late game. Warrior isn't as good late game, but fighters don't need help clearing, so it's pure, efficient midgame power. Magus... I think it pays too much power for the added clearing ability in this incarnation. I'd prefer something that looks like old Magus, adds a "restore 6% of missing Mana upon dealing damage to a monster (X second cooldown)" and costs a few hundred more gold.

While Runeglaive is undoubtedly good for AP junglers when clearing, its a lategame nerf across the board for AP junglers. It gives HALF the combat stats of Magus. The proc is inferior to Lich Bane, because the AP junglers who currently buy Lich Bane want high single target damage while the ones who don't aren't going to make good use of a sheen proc in a teamfight.

The only change Magus needs is the addition of a mana sustain passive, then the item will be perfect. Runeglaive is unnecessary.

40 AP is kind of a joke.

AP is intended to reach higher numbers than AD, so why does the AP jungle item grant the same number as the AD jungle item?

BluePolarizer6/12/2015, 11:10:31 PM2 votes

This is almost strictly inferior to Magus on every champ except Diana and Ekko.

Diana and Ekko become amazing with this item though, especially Diana, because now she can legitimately take Nashors and have a lich bane equivalent on spellblades + 15% AP sustained damage.

Champions I see benefiting from this change: Diana Ekko Evelynn Nidalee maybe Fizz and more off meta:TwistedFate Shaco Poppy Warwick all building AP of course. Champions that might not like it as much APZac jungle Singed other possible nonmeta junglers and then Elise and Fiddlesticks although the item will help with clears and mana sustain, they do not have low CD abilities that would allow the spellblade to be used very effectively in a fight. (Elise kinda gets hurt when items work to help improve clears as she has strong clear already, and usually wants high stats immediately rather than scaling into later parts of the game; this happened with Cinderhulk).

However, I think it deserves a little bit more AP off the bat or be able to build AP like the old Spirit of the Spectral Wraith by taking monster camps. 40 AP is rather low in my opinion though I like the change overall. In my opinion, the strongest AP junglers on majority use low CD spells or melee basic attacks to help them clear the jungle efficiently and a spellblade effect caters to this style. Fiddlesticks really is the only exception that I find who will really only use this new item for the mana sustain.

To those saying that AP junglers would rather use item 3100 in conjunction with Magus as they want more AP and a stronger single target proc. I would say this: When would they have the time to build Lichbane before? Unless you take Trailblazer and take most of the blues in the game, you will need mana sustain in the form of item 3027 item 3070 or item 3165 to stay in the jungle and impact other lanes. item 3089 is a very important to make you scale better in the game, and item 3135 is nearly necessary if you are to deal with tankier opponents on the enemy team. So now you have 1 item slot left, and you could use it on item 3157 item 3001 item 3136 item 3100 item 3060 item 3285 item 2049 or any defensive item you may need (I've only included full AP builds in this example rather than someone who would build one or two offensive items).

Now all of these items are situational, but with the new item, you can at least cut one item out of the equation. Lichbane is nice to add burst to a single target, but this item does that as well, with a splash (that I imagine is similar to IBG). You can get it earlier which makes it more impactful, and it actually does more for you in a teamfight where many of the champions (besides Fiddlesticks and Karthus) are usually fairly weak in. Basically you only need to hit two targets with the spellblade to make the proc more powerful than lichbane's.

I will agree with people who think the AP on the item is a little low, or maybe the CDR is suboptimal, but I think this will change. Personally, I think it will gain a little more AP but keep the same CDR. 60AP is where I think the item will be before it is really considered strong. It will give enough to impact abilities (and its own passive), but won't seem overloaded due to it giving high AP and the spellblade effect for only 2250 gold.

Agree, disagree. Let me know. Later. Peace.

I played a game of AP Xin in the jungle with the new item, it was kinda meh, granted AP xin is a whole lot of hit all my skills at once and knock the shit out of things, so not really much room for a sheen in early clears. I had funny burst when I E'd onto someone then aa'd them.

DynamiteGazelle6/13/2015, 1:25:23 AM2 votes

Why not just add this in addition to magus? Adding runglaive just buffs existing AP jungles, but taking out magus just decreases jungle diversity

If they add runeglaive, then auto based junglers have 3 options (warrior, devourer, runeglaive) and ability based junglers have none. The 20% CD was so helpful for mage junglers with their limited income, so half CD on top of half AP? Mage junglers are pretty much unviable with this change.

I don't see why they can't have both.

Blackquill6/12/2015, 10:29:59 PM2 votes

Diana is the only champion that comes to my mind that would profit from this change. And this is not good for Riots "Pursuit of Diversity".

ModKnightsKemplar6/12/2015, 10:30:49 PM2 votes

A lot of people are hating on it for giving the spellblade passive... Personally, I think that's kind of awesome. I like it a lot, and I'm excited to try it out.

4nth0l0gy6/12/2015, 10:31:47 PM2 votes

Hm. Good for the Dianas and Ekkos of the jungle. Not so sure about the Fiddlestickss and Karthuss.

Edit**: wait, I misread that. I think this is actually awesome for Fiddlesticks and Karthus.

Skia Asteri6/12/2015, 10:55:21 PM2 votes

It will be a weak item for the main users of the current AP jungle item outside of clearing the jungle. Fiddlesticks Evelynn Nidalee

While Spell Blade (item 3057 items) is good on two of those champions, this one is too weak compared to existing Sheen upgrades. In particular it is bad for those that would like item 3100 , as it is bought for single target burst which this will give much less of.

Silents4296/13/2015, 1:55:18 AM2 votes

I called it for these stats, I have said those exact stats should be the next magus, but everyone downvoted me and went on a tantrum over it, but when this is released we are going to get a bunch of praise threads for it.

ProfDrDeath6/13/2015, 7:04:33 AM2 votes

Looks really, really nice to help AP junglers through the early and mid-games.

While it might look a tad weak compared to Lichbane, remember that this is A) a lot cheaper, B) has CdR which Lichbane has not and C) gives mana sustain.

And if you absolutely want to, you could always replace Runeglaive with Lichbane for your final build.

Mob Psycho 1006/13/2015, 7:10:18 AM2 votes

Diana Ekko Fizz Nidalee Evelynn

Only champs I actually see benefiting from this. Even then it's a nerf, since it deals less damage than LB.

Francisco Pires6/29/2015, 7:48:19 PM1 votes

I was playing fiddlesticks today and i saw they changed it :( Anyway, i just sold hunter's machete and bought zhonya first.

Is the AOE spell blade going to stack like Iceborn Gauntlet stacks?

DoFr6/13/2015, 5:18:50 PM1 votes

udyr, Vi, Jax, Diana, Ekko, Fizz (maybe?), Nautilus (if you're brave enough) irelia, and so on

Squidblimp6/14/2015, 3:05:13 AM1 votes

This is definitely a step the right direction! It isn't going to help Kha'Zix's mana problems though, but maybe that's for the best, since he is a crazy snowballing assassin.

Emperor Time6/12/2015, 11:24:18 PM1 votes

The ap scaling on Runeglaive should scale with level to help it give you better late game potential.

Sid886/14/2015, 10:53:27 AM1 votes

Omg Diana is gonna be OP!!!!!

Cowardly Clown6/17/2015, 3:32:40 AM1 votes

I love the idea of a spellblade jungle item but it's such a niche item! Like fiddle just won't get a jungle item anymore due to the horrible stats on him and Magus was so much more versatile. Non AA junglers like Karthus could use it but now if a Karth got it his late game would be so bad do to missing out on 10% CDR and 40 AP.
