Balance, League and You

TL;DR: Balance teams are doing a good job playing whack-a-mole every week. Let's give them some credit.

Fellow Summoners,

I lurk the boards quite a bit (and log in to upvote), but I wanted to break my silence to talk about something that keeps popping up in threads:

Balance

Many people post about how Riot supposedly doesn't know how to balance their own game. However there's a variable a lot of the posters don't take into account. That variable is time. Over the course of any given season, the meta shifts around and back and forth. I (and many others) believe that this is what makes the game fun. When a champ is OP you get to see them in action and hopefully rampage using them yourself. I think that over_ time_ Riot's balance team does a pretty damn good job of giving all the champs their time to shine. That's one of the reasons why we see these champion reworks happen. The rework teams are doing that right now for two of the most underplayed champs: Urgot and Galio.

Regarding new champions there is a lot of disdain for how strong they often are. Yet another part of what is exciting about league is the release of these champs. Riot have released a few champs that were pretty balanced into their current meta, and look at how people felt about the "lackluster" champion that just came out. I'm looking at you Star Dragon. Due to the ever-growing champion pool we get to enjoy, it has become even harder to balance this system. So Riot come up with the 10-ban system that will release around patch 7.5. I think that this has been needed for a while now but... hey, they actually did it. This along with numberous other issues that have come up within the last 7 seasons.

So, I think we should give these guys some credit rather than looking at the outliers when we get stomped in lane. Because balance isn't something that should be stagnant. It's about evolving and adapting, just like we do when the meta shifts. Luckily we get to do that about every two weeks.

[EDIT] Added TL;DR cause ain't nobody got time for that.

I think a lot of the balance problems stem from the fact that riot has to balance the game for the upper echelon of players. Champions that are strong and feel unbalanced in lower elo are not even viable at higher elo because players understand the game better and are able to play around that champions play style. That being said lethality makes me sad.
