Does ranked scare anyone else?

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Saewin, a support/jungle main. My main champions are Sona, Lux, Morgana, and Leona, although some other supports I've recently tried and really enjoyed include Braum, Thresh, Bard, Vel'Koz, and Nami. I started playing this game at the very beginning of season six after about two years of urging by my platinum older brother. I love this game to death, and it's become a major part of my life. Since I've begun, I've learned a lot about the game and how it functions. I still can't CS for crap (hence support/jungle lmao) but I've learned a lot about the mechanics of the game and have even had to, through many uneven placements, learn to carry games as a support.

That being said, I just... don't feel any incentive to play ranked? I feel I could probably climb fairly high if I tried. I play Normals with my brother's friends, all high silver to low diamond, and I'm able to keep up with them. Since my brother is their usual support, he normally plays ADC when we play together, and they always joke about how I'm a better support than him and I'm unranked. but I just find ranked games stressful, I guess. It's a little intimidating to me, and it just doesn't compare to the fun of normals. I've been telling myself I'll play ranked for about 4 months now and I just haven't. I can't noob stomp in ranked with a Morg/Lux botlane (6 seconds of hard CC? yes please). And while I think I'm capable, I just don't know if I want to.

Ranked is really just a number to show off your skill to others, and people just try to climb to prove to themselves that they're improving and can beat players at the rank they're playing in. If you don't feel the need to be competitive about the game and climb, then there's no reason to do it.

Playing norms and having fun with cheesy comps is totally fine if that's what gets you the most enjoyment, some players just have a more competitive nature, and want to win in a ranked setting. Winning a close ranked game is a great feeling, but I've always been fond of competitive sports and events, in video games and real life. If that feeling of improving and climbing your way up the ranks doesn't get you off, then there's no reason to do it.

Just my personal view on the reason people enjoy ranked, and the way I experience it.

Oh, and you can totally noob stomp a ranked game with a lux/morg botlane, or some other cheesy cc chain lane. You're not required to play meta or tryhard stuff, as long as you think you can make it work.

You don't want to play ranked at the moment that's for sure, it's a total shitfest. Enjoy normals bud !

grug1 votes

right now is actually the best time to climb because of the lack of boosters.

Because its such a clusterfuck as the system will sometimes think you're the braindead monkey putting u on a competent team thats meant to carry you, thats where you shine.

MFTORANK11 votes

LOL, if you are low elo and you can play Jungle at a decent level you will climb really fast.

ranked is a lot harder then normal just a fyi. people don't try as hard in normal and fuck around there

and don't play lux support, she isn't a support.

I think you're just not playing normals with the right people.

Lux is my second favorite champion, and I can't CS well enough for midlane. Hence why I play it. honestly it's pretty damn good, since you can transition into a carry lategame provided you have enough kills and assists and have been taking every opportunity to proc your Spellthief's.

no, I remember when I first started playing the game I played ahri a shit load in normal and dominated, like you keep saying you do, played her in ranked when I hit 30 and got curb stomped. Go play your 10 placement games and tell me how you do, ok? And don't play flex because people try less in flex then they do in normal games.

and you can't cs? You play normal games to PRACTICE. So play Lux Mid lane and PRACTICE CSing....

Also I just looked at some of your past games on opgg, you are playing mostly with lvl 30's unranks and bronzes.

Took some time to find it but I looked at your last ranked game, you were going against gold people on the other team. And you got destroyed.

And the lux game where you had 50 cs.....(you really need to practice on the cs instead of just saying "fuck it, i'm jging and supporting only!") the anivia you faced was silver last season and is currently bronze 2 atm.

_So the point is, you play better people in ranked. _ So go play ranked again and tell me if you can "climb" or not.

I wasn't planning on playing Lux in ranked. She's just a fun pick I do in normals, I'm obviously going to play supports more geared towards supporting. also, my brother doesn't play a lot so my higher elo games are few and far between, admittedly. but look at my score and tell me that game was my fault. One last thing, I play support jungle for another reason as well: I like playing those roles. maybe I will learn to do it better some day, but for right now it's not necessary.

I'm just sharing my personal experiences, there's no need to be rude about it. I'm sorry you got stomped when you tried ranked, but you don't need to be so agressive. like holy shit dude.

(P.S. my last match against golds was four or five games ago. so it probably didn't take you "item 3027" to find, as you said.)

It doesn't matter if you fed or your shitty ass teammates fed, never blame your teammates for your loss.

No, i'm just saying what I see, that was long ago in like season 5, i'm almost in gold atm.

What? I was talking about your ranked games. which you haven't played any recently so it was hard to find one.

I prefer ranked. Players take it a bit more seriously (most of the time). I play normals if A) someone in the party is too high for me to play ranked with or B) to learn new things.

I totally get your fear of ranked.

My very first game this season had a troll.

Fortunately it was on the enemy team, but I ended up getting hard carried by my team after getting an Akali into my Viktor.

Needless to say, part of me is happy with my 100% winrate Viktor.

if ur so confident than why are you scared to try?

Play normals - you can find games faster, less strict meta and people run around the map for ganks/kills, instead of tryharding to push everything in the first 20 minutes. In ranked you will find more meta slaves, people that curse, scripters, raging kids that afk and int feeders. Also many people dodge in the champion select, if they get counterpicked.

I have played this game for 4 years. Have not touched ranked since like a year ago or something

Once you go ranked, you don't go back. I find it a lot more fun and meaningful to play ranked, because on average people are just trying harder more often.

That's not to say you don't have negativity because you do, but you get that everywhere. The thing is, you've probably played so many Normal games that your MMR has normalized and you're getting good, fun games. It's definitely going to be a rocky start to get to that same point if you start ranked now
