Goodbye Season 9 and Good Riddance

As we count down the hours to the end of season 9, I'm pretty certain we can all agree that thank Christ this is over. Season 9 has easily been the worst season I can remember playing. Go back to Season 4 where teams could actually play and have a chance past 10 min. Where you could, actually, carry a game. Back to when players made relatively smart decisions to "I don't even know what" now. It's incredible how much this game bred toxicity and one-sided stomps in just one season. It's almost as if it was planned that way.

There is no consistency whatsoever in Matchmaking or player skill, whether you are in promos or not. It's straight up a crapshoot and may as well be random with what to expect in your games.

So glad this Season is over, but I'm probably being WAY too optimistic to think it is changing anytime soon. The matchmaking in Season 9 has been truly horrendous and I don't know how Riot thinks it actually works well and accomplishes the one thing it should do, and that is balanced games.

Anyone else want to say goodbye to Season 9 and it's awfulness?

The majority of the stuff in S9 is carrying over into S10 so idk what you're so happy about. They aren't addressing damage, they aren't addressing the power of turrets so people can play around them if you're behind, they aren't addressing minions fking you over, they aren't addressing the lack of vision. It's just more of the same with bells and whistles on the rift the core of what S9 is not changing. Let's not even get into the new high damage, low risk and high reward champions they're pumping out.

Wait for season 10, even more damage and instant executions at low hp threshold, once u claim dragon soul.

So you mean at 40 minuts ? less than 5% of the games last more than 40 minuts, so it's one game out of 20. GAMEBREAKER woo.

Did you even read the fucking notes? They even say how the timers are calculated, and even went ahead to show us in multiple places btw that it can spawn as early as 26 minutes. Not fucking forty. No idea where the fuck you got that, but its nearly twice as late into the game as elder spawns.

Its so sad. You didn't even mention the biggest problem. The ranked LP gains and losses and match making. I see games where gold 1 plays vs silver 4 and i see players who are gold 4 for 3 season without improving get to plat off +37 -7 lp gains for the first 60 games. XD

im confused... so for the last 2 years we all begged riot for less overloaded champs, less mobility and less 1shotting...

and so far pre season changes only add more rng and more options for assassins in items, while in season 9 we got more overloaded 1shot champs.

so why are you so happy that season 9 is gone? yes season 9 is absolute utter shit, but season 10 so far looks only worse.

I actually want to say the exact opposite. I’ve learned a lot being hardstuck gold for most of the season. I have over 1k games this season, and I finally made it to plat today.

  1. You cant always carry games. Sometimes you are the only one doing well on your team, and thats a shitty feeling.

  2. You are not always the carry. Sometimes, you are going to get carried by your jungler or bot lane, so its better that you play around them instead of focusing selfishly on yourself. Make it easier for your team to carry you.

  3. Games are mostly onesided in this elo, because most players (in my gold experience) are trigger happy mofos, and give up way too easily.

  4. Instead of focusing on your teammates, the only way to truly climb is to focus on yourself. I pretty much went full tryhard mode today, Climbed from Gold 2 to Plat 4 over 9 games with an average of 7.1 CS/MIN.

Granted, I have over 1k games, the number of games Ive played is irrelivent, because I’m still low elo. Hopefully I can make Diamond next Season. Good luck to you next season too. I was hard stuck gold 2 for over 600 games, dropped to Gold 4, got back to Gold 2, and 100% focused on “doing everything right” aka csing instead of taking stupid fights, not chasing enemies into the fog of war, and just accepting I wont carry every game. I miraculously climbed 2 divisions in one day, never really being in Gold 1, finally to plat.

That is the problem that you fail to grasp. If you are good enough for Plat you shouldn't have been bouncing up and down like that. The matchmaking is straight awful and no one can convince me otherwise. I'm arguing for both sides, both the people who get stomped and those who do the stomping. It's not supposed to be as one-sided as it is, and it happens within 10 min.

And no, you are an exception. You can do EVERYTHING right, and go on massive winning streaks, and then the game decides, "No you can't get Plat, you need to have 50% win percentage, then sends you rolling back a whole division from your promos to Plat.

If you focus on yourself, you lose. You cannot get teammates to survive that long on their own without your help. Or they rage at you if you don't help them. It's lose lose. And it's like this EVERY time I get Gold I or promos. Just massive losing streaks that start with feeding bot lane in the first 10 min. It's like clockwork and is the only consistent thing in this game.

I've been preaching this for the last 2 years.. I always get down voted to hell.... Now suddenly that "forced 50%" thing seems to be the norm logic... Wish I could go back to everyone who pissed on me for 3 years with a massive "told you so".

RyzeRework5 votes

Lol when I first got plat I was 65 percent winrate. Then u would go on super massive 24 game lose streaks where it felt like the game was always out of my hands. I'm not saying I played perfectly but i feel like after multiply loss streaks it was kind of weird that i didnt have 1 other teammate doing something good

So once again, it's not the game itself that is bad, it's the matchmaking, right? So the game's fine.

lol.. Theres like a plethora of problems with the game and match making and they keep adding stupid things that fuel the fire.

I don't think you deserved those downvotes.

While I agree that matchmaking has always been in a bad state, your advice is still solid. It's all about understanding that you're guaranteed to win something like 40%, lose 40%, and actually influence 20% (or something similar-- I KNOW those numbers aren't accurate, but it's something close, lol).

Just remembering you are only actually capable of changing the outcome in a certain percentage of games can affect how you play the game. It definitely helps me tilt less.

Season 9 isn't going anywhere. Season 10 is just the same thing with pretty new dragon rng effects. We're not off that train yet.

This.

It may be the official end of Season 9, but we are still essentially playing on Season 9 patches and we don't know how long it will last. I agree that it's probably the worst Season in the history of LoL so far, but not because of "matchmaking". That term is probably being incorrectly used by the OP.

Personally, I had the best matchmaking experience across multiple accounts and servers of any Season of LoL so far. For example, I didn't have wild discrepancies between how long it took to rank up my accounts. Instead of it taking 100 games on one account and 400 games on the other account. It took about the same number of games: 100 or so. And I would say it was because I had a much more consistent experience when it came to matchmaking. This is anecdotal evidence. So I don't want to say there are no matchmaking issues. For example, I'm above center on the distribution of players now instead of below center on the distribution of players and that can have a significant impact on the matchmaking experience (because of the tendency to push players away from center over time; RIOT brings new players in at the center of the distribution rather than at the bottom).

Isnt it funny that in the first 5 years of love, commitment, and care put into league, somehow, someway, in these past 5 years, they have gone BACKWARDS and made the game worse for people who want a team game. Like for real, how stupid do you have to be to completely ignore or not even notice 5 years of progress and just shit on it because "DUR NOT MAH IDEAS, MAKE ALL CHAMPS FAST AND BURSTY"

Idk man yeah season 9 was bad but honestly 6 and 8 were even worse for me especially season 8. Seriously all I can remember from that shithole of a season was all ten players in a game having a stopwatch, and ad carries being unkillable by practically anything because supports such as Janna and Lulu made it so they couldn’t take any damage while also shredding your healthbar.

Seriously can we stop choosing 1 season that was "the worst" and just all agree that ALL the seasons from seasons 5 and on were complete gutter trash and Riot has been sinking this game ever since?

Not gonna lie here, and I think I'm in the minority, I actually think this season has been a step up over previous years. Season 7 was probably the worst season of all time in my opinion. Season 8 was like 10% less horrible but still absolutely dreadful. Season 9 still isn't as good as some older seasons, but I think people have forgotten the paper towers that fell at 8 minutes from last year or the 8 month Ardent meta the year before that.

GinoSoldier2 votes

I'm still salty people think Ardent was ever the issue. Riot lowering ADC item costs caused every problem of the Ardent meta, and Enchanters lost their only somewhat strong item after like 4 patches of consecutive nerfs to appease the mob.

The only nerf it received i agree with is the removal of the on-hit healing effect, but really they should have gutted %lifesteal instead.

Actually the adc players on the forum miss season 7 and say it was balanced. Season 9 was worse than 8 in my opinion, the matchmaking got even worse and we got some more new champs.

Is season 9 gone? No. Are certain champions destroying every lane with almost no counterplay? Yes Is snowballing still a winning factor? Yes Whoever picks first still loses Toplane? Yes Is True damage still a overpowered stat? Yes Are mages still not nerfed? Yes Is there any counterplay to extremely early burst damage? No Is Minion aggro fixed? No Is Minion block fixed? No Is Matchmaking fixed? No Is there room for creative and interesting builds? No

Make those Yes->No and those No->Yes and then you can celebrate that Season 9 is gone (or LoL is a fun game again) And as far as I know, after Riot's Projects start coming out LoL will be left to rot

Rochai3 votes

By minion aggro do you mean how they just randomly target anything and also randomly switch targets, even to nearby champions who haven't done anything to get minion aggro? That also stop targeting a champion that just auto attacked or used a targeted ability on an enemy champion? Or that last second swap targets to butcher a minion that you were about to hit with the timing of their previous targeting? if so that is something that largely needs to be fixed.

I mean its so bad that if Riot didn't add plating the minions could sometimes take a turret by 10 minutes and their tower be untouched if left alone. the fact that minion aggro is so random has definitely hurt many players laning phase.

Can't wait for the "Goodbye Season 10 and Good Riddance" next year

Each season has gotten progressively worse as Riot continues to fuck up everything without knowing the reason for their fuckery.

HeeroTX6 votes

I agree with others that Season 8 was worse.

But I also agree with others that nothing in the Riot updates about what is pending for Season 10 implies that 10 will be "better" than this season. The few things I know about what's ahead (starting with Senna added to the game) say 10 might be when I finally peace out.

WickJohnWick6 votes

Games will barely last 20 minutes in s10, it's gonna be even more of a clown fiesta then it is now....2 fucking rift haralds? gimme a break baron wont be needed.

The bigger issue for me is the changes to dragons and the elemental rift.

I like the change to Elder, but the rest? Just... why?

FazerPowerZ5 votes

Season 9 into Season 10? Nothing will improve. It's just a rinse and repeat scenario. The damage burst AP meta is still going to be present and the damage will still be overall crazy and high. This game will never improve. I'm sick of dying in 2-3 seconds without being able to kill my opponent because they are fed and ahead. It makes me sick.. People don't talk about damage often because they think it's good and nothing is wrong. Let me tell you there is something seriously wrong with this game and current season. Riot doesn't care about their player-base... Hell.. We talk about getting different skins for different champs but they always release ones for the female champions only (not including yasuo but he has a shit ton of skins already).

I will honestly tell you that I feel like I just need to uninstall and not touch this game ever again. The toxicity and the damage is stupid and this company does not give a shit about their player-base at all. They only care about the LCS and their "numbers" so to speak for profit and ad revenue/revenue.

KiwiFlavor Ziggs3 votes

Yeah... Season 10 is literally Season 9 but a new map. The same issues that plague the game are staying, and with a lot of resources spent on their 3+ new games, not sure if the client, matchmaking, or anything substantial is actually going to get fixed. In fact, the random map every game is going to just unbalance games even further by ensuring even the map is not a stable variable. The only actual balance changes to the game are the support items as the lethality ones are just a shift in power. And of course, the support items are aimed at making kill lanes more viable so as to speed up the games even further because the new dragon buffs will focus all attention down bot lane. If your games weren't lasting past 10 minutes before just wait for the cluster foxtrot that is about to be 4 man bot lane and one team going 4 kills under in the first couple minutes, EVERY GAME.

I read somewhere that stopwatch will be removed from the game in preseason but now I cant find that note anymore. Is it still a thing?

HeeroTX1 votes

I haven't heard that, but then stopwatch is one of the best things to prevent 100->0 from assassins, so... probably.

RyzeRework3 votes

Stopwatch prevents any intersting gameplay actually

HeeroTX2 votes

I literally NEVER play stopwatch (seriously, you can look at my op.gg, you won't see it, ever), so I don't say this in a self-serving way. How does it prevent interesting gameplay? I don't LIKE the thing. It's screwed me multiple times against other players, but I don't see how it prevents interesting gameplay unless you mean specifically it stops some highlight reel kills.

RyzeRework2 votes

then your not playing league right lol. imagine if anyone jumps on you and you can make yourself not take damage for 2.5 seconds? that malphite ult that would one shot you?item 2420 that zed or katarina?item 2419 the yi thats about to kill you and get resets?item 2419 about to get tower dove?item 2419 hell you can even use item 2419 item 3157

Baculus2 votes

If you're not in Diamond, then you don't have an excuse for not having comeback victories. Even heavily stomping games can turn around when it comes to objective control.

And if you disagree with that, then why aren't you carrying? You can't have it both ways.

But really, I think most understand that your post is about being stuck in gold for 400 games @ a 49/51 w/r rate. Am sympathetic, can't imagine what that's like.

CytheGuy5 votes

I mean I get where you're coming from, but the idea that comebacks are possible in all of low-elo simply because these players don't know how to end the game is kind of only half-thought out. No one knows how to end, yes, but very few people know how to come back too. If a player knows how to come back, then they are probably a bit more than gold-elo material. Even then, it often takes more than one person to make a comeback, so just because one player on the team knows what they are doing, if their team can't or won't fill in for their jobs then the team probably won't make a comeback anyways.
