Jungling Yorick

Hi folks, I no longer have a suitable connection for league, so i'm tossing out there an idea that I've had for a while: Jungle Yorick Yorick

Is yorick at all viable as a jungler? with his minions able to be spawned from jungle camps

he would require some planning, but he could use his Q to farm graves and then with his mistwalkers backing him, he would have fairly decent clear speed and even viable ganks, especially when he hits level 6

I think this perfectly suits his new split-pushing theme, I mean, it's like an old horror film where the zombies rise out of the swamp or anything current where they're in the woods like walking dead

I bring this up because his role selection is exclusively top in ranked

it might not get too far when the rank is higher, but his wall can greatly delay bottom lane unless they flash out of it and it seems a viable option

I would like to hear opinions and even feedback from anyone that tries it

remember that even just burning flash is a victory in itself

I have played him jungle, he is an extremely powerful clearer and really sustained, his counter jungling is nasty but his ganks requires your laners to have cc so you can cage or your opponent to be a total idiot. He can also solo drag early and with Maiden solo Rift Harald

actually, I think his focus should be on mid lane and top lane

most of them are not equipped to handle full-on pressure and would have to burn their offense against the tank (and maiden) to disable some of his offensive prowess

of course, it would be quite funny to just rush bottom with 6 ghouls and maiden at level 6...even with optimal farming, it'd be hard to disengage that unless they have a brand or Alistar or blitzcrank or an ADC with a lot of AOE (so the uncommon jinx, a corki potentially, kog maw and not sure who else)

I've tried it before and it's pretty bad.

Your clear-speed is awful since really only your Q is good for damaging camps.

It's really hard to get ghouls up as only half the camps (raptors, wolves, krugs) give you enough graves to raise ghouls. (You need 3 graves up to summon ghouls)

Invades are bad since you have no dueling potential without ghouls up and you have no escape.

Ganks are horrendous against any champ with a dash as your only gank tool is your W. Botlane ganks are hard too since a good botlane can focus down your W quickly by auto'ing it. You can wreck some champs if you come out of the jungle with a full set of ghouls and land an E, but it's rare for that to happen.

There are only 2 things Yorick excels in.

  1. Taking towers after a successful gank. This is mostly post-6 since you can summon ult and push down a lane quickly
  2. Objective control. You can burn down drag or baron very quickly with ghouls or with ult.

Other than that it's pretty bad.

that's something I wonder about. If Yorick is such a good split pusher, why is he not excelling in this meta?

the equivalent of 3 champs 6 creeps and minions attacking tower would finish it pretty quickly

The problem is he isn't really that great of a splitpusher unfortunately. He takes towers super fast when nobody is defending the lane, but his ghouls are too fragile if there is someone at the turret.

One of the key aspects of a splitpusher is being able to dive someone. He does this ok IF he hits everything (that being his w and e), but if he misses his diving potential is meh. Compare this to someone like Fiora or Tryndamere and it's no contest.

Another important part of splitpushing is 1v1 dueling. Yorick is pretty good at this in the early/mid game, but again it's situational. He has to have his ult up and his ghoulies ready to go or else he isn't that strong. Good opponents can play around this and deny Yorick a fight whenever he is powerful. Compare his 1v1 to someone like Riven or Yasuo and again it's not really better or even comparable.

Mobility is another problem. Champs like Trynd, Fiora, Yasuo, and Riven have pretty consistent mobility that allows them to escape when they get 4-man ganked. Yorick doesnt have anything. He has to try and block the people coming at him and run away slowly.

All of this makes it sound like I think Yorick is garbage which I don't. I just don't think he stands out compared to other champs in his category

He's not exclusively top - I've found that he works at mid too btw.

But jungle Yorick is not worth it - you really need those ghouls (mistwalkers) up for Yorick to start rolling. And it's not easy getting started - even with a leash. (You just fall behind too fast - and heaven forbid restarting when you die). I strongly recommend shelving the idea for now.
