What is the point in playing ranked games right now? Is it solely to boost MMR for the next season's placements? Can you still move up in rank at levels outside of master and challenger? I don't understand why ranked is still enabled if the season is over.

Next season you won't be placed in gold anyways so the struggle will continue .
I thought most players played just to get better at the game.
