What is the point in playing ranked games right now? Is it solely to boost MMR for the next season's placements? Can you still move up in rank at levels outside of master and challenger? I don't understand why ranked is still enabled if the season is over.

EffectFX1 votesCorrect. As long as you consistently play well then it's unlikely you'll lose a lot. Sure losing spree's might happen, but as long as you personally play well you'll rank up over time.

Next season you won't be placed in gold anyways so the struggle will continue .
