why did they touch Vel'koz

First I was really excited about the vel'Koz changes. I main him since he was released and I have played thousands of games with him. i understand that the goal was to make him a bit more powerful late game to shred tanks . However, THIS IS NOT WHAT IS HAPPENING with this update.

  1. Vel'Koz is a squishy immobile champ. His previous build with athene's liandry's gave him survivability. Now everybody can just ult kill him because he has to build AP scaling items.
  2. The changes to his abilities give him a VERY WEAK laning phase. He has no kill potential unless your jungler gives you a great gank. Which makes it even harder to snowball or build his new costly ap items
  3. The new ult mechanics are really clunky. Before, you could layer weq+ ult for 2 passive procs in 1 second and an amazing burst. Now You have to perfectly weave eqw and then R to be able to do the same damage. in reality any smart champ will dodge at least one of your skillshots, which delays the ult until the second w proc. This delay means no surprise burst and everybody walks out just fine from your ult. ALSO, YOU'RE IMMOBILE AND SQUISHY during ult, which means everybody can stop you during all these delays.

No main vel'koz player even asked for a rework. Just give us back our old slightly underpowered yet fun to play squid.

.......................

"thousands of vel koz games"

yet you still lead with W before E against an enemy champion..... that dictates you land 2 skill shots instead of 1. if you start with E you only need to land the one skill shot and then the W (both procs) Q, and the start of your ult is guaranteed to hit, and then you got to chase them around with your R.

pro tip

E first.... Did it land? good

W - > Q -> R them.

the combo is not ~~ W -> E -> Q -> W -> R ~~ its just E -> W -> Q -> R, with Q poke from a distance to get them down a bit before hand.

He's fine, just rush Rylai's.

I completely diasagree. He's much better than before. His landing phase feels as good as before. The change to his ult makes it much better. It has higher base damage and AP scaling and the potential to do full true damage. Old VELKOZ had no late game and couldn't snowball very well. A fed Old VELKOZ didn't deal the damage that it deserved to deal. Now VELKOZ can have both. This rework was great and I'm enjoying the new VELKOZ right now.

Btw, I'm a VELKOZ main who wanted some tweaks ( didn't really expect a rework) to give him better snowballing potential and a late game.

Clearly you were wrong since he was buffed now.

Velkozs win rate decreased because his play rate doubled from 2% to 4%. The old VELKOZ had about a constant play rate of 2% and now it doubled because people want to try him out since the rework. Riot is only buffing VELKOZ to make him easier for the other 2% that just played him since 6.9.
