Thoughts on Volibears ultimate?

I have been playing volibear a lot recently and I have grown quite attached to him, his early game is strong, his ganks are amazing and if you can do well with him you can stay relative pretty much up until very late game. BUT, his ultimate (this is just my opinion) feels very weak and does not synergize well with his kit, there are times were I completely forget its even up, It really does just feel like a bit more damage on his auto attacks, Ill pop it just to push wave faster later on in the game or to help me get an objective like drag or rift. Its just not very useful in my opinion, I honestly wanted to hear what you guys thought about it though, is it trash and needs replaced, is it broken op, or is it just "fine"? (I'm not suggesting riot prioritize him or anything, I think he is doing very good right now, but that ult is just meh)

His ultimate provides him aoe and range therefore. It's really strong especially in 1vs2+ especially. It's a big mistake to forget about it. You can even use minions to hit a target close to them. Voli is painful to play against and underrated since day 1 imo. You can build him like a bruiser in this meta.

I think his ult is outdated. I think voli probably is somewhat high on the list of champs that need some work, but time-wise it's probably still a ways off.

But yes, having an ult that relies on autos but 0 way to help him apply it is bad. I'd be shocked if he went through a rework and kept that.

I fell the same way. His ult provides no cc. At least add a slow to it or something. I am like you. When I am playing Voli I forget it's even up sometimes because it is so bad.

His ult and is bite used to be the core of his kit but volibear is squisher than the average melee due to his passive but him being squisher often leads to him not being able to use his passive. Riot has mass nerfed tank items like 5 times in general Not counting individual nerfs since season 4 all of them hit volibear's surviability thus he cant build items to supliment his spells outside of defensive items. Rage blade was one of my old favorites when it gave life steal spell vamp exta ap and attack speed for hitting its 50% hp threshhold. There are alot more things that punish you for being low on hp when riot also puts burst on carries and doesnt give it any real down time to take advantage of

His ult doesn't make sense since he's played as a tank. Having a hard engage on it would be cool

How about reworking the ult to something like this: upon cast, a lightning bolt hits Volibear to deal initial AoE damage and applies a slow to each enemy, and each of his abilities gets a buff for a few seconds.

His Q gives him 50% more running speed and extra distance. All enemies he passes through are thrown over his back. His W gets the chain lightning effect and more powerful bite. His basic attack speed increases. His E stuns in an area for 1 second instead of a slow.

In my opinion, Volibear's ult is the most underrated ability in the game. I find it ridiculously helpful and the extra damage is insane. Most people forget that it lasts 12 seconds. I play him top lane and build item 3748 item 3078 item 3742 item 3091 item 3111 item 3083 or item 3071 . Try taking conqueror on him too if you take him top. His 1v2 potential rivals that of Illaoi and Darius and his single target burst with an AA-Q-E-AA-Titanic Active-W is second to none. In teamfights, conqueror makes his ult bounces do true damage and makes him a legitimately strong teamfighter.

I think they do need to lower the cooldown a bit, but Volibear's ult is by no means weak. It's extremely underestimated.

Keep in mind that his ult enhances his autos for a set duration, not a set number of attacks. This means the more attack speed you have, the more bounces you can get, and thus dealing quite a lot of extra damage.

his ult is fine to me. its not flashy or mind blowing by any means but its decent. Sivir on the other hand, her ult is pretty much useless. sooo many times ive popped it while chasing someone and i STILL cant catch them. if the ONLY thing your ult does is boost MS, then dammit i better be able to catch up to someone no problem. ive played full matches where i dont even get a chance to use it effectively, i just use it cuz its up and i want to get back to tower faster

It has its perks, but compared to leagues current state, it definitely needs some fine tuning/tweaks; If not a replacement in its entirety.

An idea for a replacement would be something similar to Nunus, but have it be a lightning tree instead. All champs within the ultimate the core radius (like leos ult, center gets stunned, outer gets slowed,) gets hit with a lightning bolt that does 150 true damage & inflicts a static charge, that does DoT at 25 dmg for 5 seconds, while all champs outside core radius just get the static charge. That gives solid damage, while not being completely busted.

You could even have it set up where it it can take an elemental effect. So people affected by the static charge get an increase 15% extra damage by the same element, so static shiv really has an extra pop, or blitz' passive, or viks ultimate, and so on.

Just my two cents on it. xD

I wouldn't say it doesn't synergize with his kit, as he is expected to auto attack, and gains AS for doing so, and thus chains more lighting, but I will say it is a bit underwhelming. That being said, he is a tank/bruiser with an execute and his passive is very strong.

Something else would have to give if he was to get more power in his ult which I think is fine. It's not crazy but it's not terrible either.
