Your matchmaking is not based on your rank so much as it is based on your MMR.

If I go on a win streak and I'm Gold 5, and a Plat player goes on a loss streak, both our MMR's may be the same. Therefore, It's possible that I may be in a plat game with plat players who are on loss streaks.

silver 1/2 are roughly average.... sooo for placements or whatever, it's very common to play against silvers
