Support Item Concerns 8.2

The new support item changes overall are better for the most part. However not having the passives on the items feels substantially weaker. When they were introduced before, it was to make supports feel stronger and have different routes to expand their playstyle. These changes did have a strong utility feeling to them and it felt like supports could have an overall bigger impact in the game than they do in 8.2. The previous powers granted from the passives allowed players to assist their team in a way that was unique to the support role.

I have played some games with the new support changes and appreciated the lower gold value on the quest to get the sightstone. Acquiring the sightstone by means of the quest granted more gold to get other items which felt gratifying but overall I think taking away the passives is a little too much for the trade off in early or re-allocated gold.

These support ‘quests’ were added to make support more fun and dynamic but without the passive support is funneled into less item choices until their final item. The changes feel lackluster and the extra item slot might be okay in the end/late game but the player may not always be in the position to complete his/her build while having the lowest income.

I understand players might have been abusing the passive or actives on the items, but placing the passive on the last tier support item with maybe another smaller quest can be an option? As a player who enjoyed playing support, I am extremely unsatisfied with the changes that have occurred in 8.2.

I miss being able to rush sigh stone as first item. Bronze ADCs aren't always about the warding and now I'm a lot more vulnerable vision wise until I can complete the stupid quest.

the pro players said:hey,no one buys the support item actives upgrades. riot said:alright our gods we will do as you command and remove it.

Agreed with OP.

Upgrading for some CDR and an extra ward charge feels completely unrewarding.

I am no longer excited to see the quest be fulfilled.

Also, can we talk about how absurd it is late game for supports to be forced to return to base with no intent other than restocking wards? They're losing valuable time. Can we maybe have the highest tier ward item spawn a single charge like every 5 minutes or something, just to offset supports' ridiculous basing requirements late game?

Supporting suddenly became a huge GRIND... Lost the last fun part it had with these new changes...

I agree with your comment 100%.

item 3306 item 3107 and item skills CDR from Ruby sightstone.. Heck that was one of the most OP combos universe has ever seen and now it is gone... This 3 items were ~30% of supporting power.. Now it is gone somewhere and without additional items CDR item 3107 is not so appealing.

Foe example as Alistar main I dont really know how to start a game anymore, because only the tank route left at the moment, while back in the day I was always rushing ruby sightstone, item 3306 and item 3107 because with these Alistar is very balanced, very useful to the whole team, has good money income and at the same time those items given him health, armor, HP regeneration, CDRs and combined with runes - shielding power, later on you just item 3053 and you are nearly invincible with your ULT. Today I am just another slow tanky champion, that only has his combo left and if I use it I have nothing else...

With the new runes especially ingenious hunter/cosmic insight, I really thought riot was trying to make the active items more viable... As a support I buy both the combined and active items depending on what items I need to build. Also, I am really upset how they remove the passives because most supports who take frostfang are really squishy and that small movement speed passive from frostfang helps kite and keep these squishy supports escape danger.

What i want the most is the Support Active of item 3306 back.

I have grown very, very attached to them as a Zilean Supp Main.

The Rest of the Changes, i cant really judge them bad or good until i played around them, sounds good as a whole.

I feel like this change removes what little agency support champs have, and furthermore as far as these auto filled supports go with this new system Id rather have a support that sometimes uses the active on item 3309 than to almost never use item 3092

Actually those change were only made cause they put Bandit on support item, making them basically OP. While I agree it's globally an enhancement, it must also be noted that Riot are the one to blame concerning the fact those items became dominant as other role than support.

I'm having difficulty in doing anything except complete an eye first. I might can get some boots, but now I feel like I have to spend 1800 gold whereas before I only had to spend 800.

We lost the quest rewards but idc. I dont "want a cake and eat it too". Im really happy with the not having to buy the SS every single game. I cannot go back to buy SS ever again. It's just so good like this. We won more than we lost imo.

Besides the items actives will be back in the future, they said so and I have faith.

As a Braum one trick I really like these changes anyone who knew what they were doing on Braum likely rarely went face of the mountain anyway and I feel like now Braum has a few different options for his first item where he didn't before you can go zekes or locket or knights vow much earlier now depending on what your team needs rather than waiting until 20 min to get near completing a high impact item by which time most matches are basically decided anyway. Though I can definitely feel for other support champions that built talisman and spooky ghosts though I think their are many alternatives like going righteous glory instead of talisman now on Rakan. Like people mentioned I think hearing some of this feedback and based off of what they said during the posts about removing sightstone I think they are gonna make a bunch of new support items which hopefully will give people even more unique and adaptable builds.

I’m kind of bias since I tend to play Sona and not having to upgrade to the final tier for my support item, basically opens me up to being viable WAY earlier. I can now roll into a fight with item 3098 + item 3114 + item 3158 VS. item 3092 + item 1001

AuraCreed1/26/2018, 5:50:01 AM2 votes

I personally don't like the changes because they make the role less enjoyable for me to play. I liked the decision of when I could buy sightstone, and if I was going to combine it to save slots/have more vision control early or get ruby later and have active items up more for fights. I get that sightstone is like a bag of rocks in some cases but I honestly didn't mind it because of the actives on items I could get. Now without three of those actives and without ruby sightstone support items feel lack luster again.

I feel like this change would have been better IF they had replaced the lost actives onto different items immediately instead of promising them for a later date.

Riot have done it! they gone backwards in development! Good job Riot. You said you seek inspiration from Heroes of the Storm, and then you made these nice quest items. and now you fucked them all up!

Bring back Ruby Sight stone, and Face of the mountain. you keep changing shit that doesn't need change, but won't balance out all your other broken shit in the game

DeadUnborn1/25/2018, 5:10:42 PM1 votes

Lol yes plis give me spell thieves passive back so I can abuse that shit with Teemo top vs melee, making my lane ungankable as soon as I get the quest while having unparallel kiting and chasing power

Glory ln Death1/25/2018, 5:16:20 PM1 votes

Doesn't really matter until they fix this huge bug the new Quest introduced that makes it so you can't buy T3 items...

Hochelaga1/26/2018, 9:35:23 PM1 votes

I think that the real problem was how badly non-support champs could easily abuse the items.

Frostfang provides a 20 AP and 10% CDR which is almost the same as Fiendish Codex for cheaper. The active movespeed on hit AND self generating gold was what made this item so appreciated by non supports. As a result, they could snowball easier and there were basically non drawbacks of buying that item. Azir Evelynn Ekko Vladimir aren't supposed to buy frostfang, yet they still do.

Targon was so problematic that it was the standard starting item for Bot lane. Adc's who would take doran's blade were struggling against targon users. Most of the time, the support would also take Targon which would basically double the income for the support and provide a very reliable healing for the adc. Enchanters such as Sona and Lulu would see their poke become completely useless considering how much hp they would gain back. The biggest problem was how big the passive shield was during mid game. As an adc, you should NOT be tanky which wasn't the case. Heavy carries such as Vayne, Kog maw and Tristana would see their win-rate skyrocket since they have a relatively easy laning phase.

Nomad Medallion is mainly abused by top laners (especially Nasus). Taking that support item helps you get less penalized when you miss loads of cs. On top of giving back mana, it would ease top ganks because of the passive bonus movespeed.

It should be clear that support items are meant for the support role only. Thus, moving the sighstone INSIDE a support item gives to most carry champions an unwanted stats which would greatly discourage them to buy that item.

I can see certain champions who would still abuse of that item such as Lee Sin, Karma, Morgana. But it certainly would not give them a power spike like the previous support items

i dont give a rats asss about the passives or what not the real loss is not having ruby ss
