So I notice there is some confusion revolving around Taliyah and her previous state.
A lot of people thought that the W change was in fact a BUFF. But hold your horses now. Lets take a moment to look at what the Old W had and what the New W has.
Old W:
-
Had a Cooldown of 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8.
-
Was able to change throwing directions midcast.
-
Had an accurate targeting reticle.
-
Had maximum range cast, meaning timing would not be thrown off from casting out of range.
-
Was able to knock people upwards, a safe choice when assisting allies.
-
Acted like a smaller version of Cho'Gath's Q with more flexibility (Y'know. Our good buddy Cho who we all know and love).
New W:
-
Has a Cooldown of 16 / 15 / 14 / 13 / 12.
-
Not able to change directions midcast. Is locked when cast.
-
Has an inaccurate targeting reticle that forces user to use muscle memory.
-
Does not have maximum cast range, forcing Taliyah to walk to designated range if cast out of range.
-
Unable to knock people upwards, which may result in discord among team coordination.
-
Targets like Viktor's E and Rumble's R, but does not act like the two, resulting in a foreign feel in terms of control.
Alright. Lets take a breath and look this over. I know what most of you are thinking. "But she can knock people into the minefield earlier and do other neat things that she couldn't do before!"
Yes. That is true. Partially true. Why is that? It's because W was not the suspect of Taliyah's innate clunky playstyle. It was her Lockout Mechanic. Whenever she cast W, every other skill would be disabled INCLUDING item Actives. Hated as it was, it was eventually removed.
Now. Lets go back to her W. It seems like her Old W has the upper hand, no? Had a lower cooldown, had an accurate reticle, and had overall better flexibility. I'll put some emphasis on flexibility because as a Disruption mage, Taliyah needs that flexibility and freedom to be able to fill that niche. Restrictions would only make her play in a binary way, but that's another story.
Okay. I know some of you are still going, "But she can knock people into the minefield earlier and do other neat things that she couldn't do before!"
Again it's not her W. It's the Lockout. I see a lot of people confusing W and pointing fingers at poor Old W because it was noticeable. Lockout was kind of behind the scenes screwing over Old W. It was what made her odd to play for so many. I still do miss it so, but I suppose moving on is a part of this game.
So seeing how much Old W had that New W doesn't, wouldn't it be logical to change it back? Nerfing through limiting options should not be the method of nerfing. It just makes the champion unwelcoming to play. How about we change it back, but keep the party pooper Lockout locked out for good? I think it would make her feel a lot better to play overall due to how people can do more things with it.
