4 variables out of my control

I am only in control of 1/5 of the players in a game. Tell my again why the lp system is based off of chess and actually not updated for a 5v5 game? hm? I guarantee you everyone that disagree with me (delusional) won't even respond because they know the facts are not on their side.

Law of averages. If your teammates are on average equal in skill to the enemy, it only really matters whether you are better than the enemy in your role. So if you are better than the enemy you will have more wins than losses so you climb.

Yeah, challenge accepted.

  1. It's not straight from chess. It's based on the same principles, but it's adapted to this context.
  2. It's true that it only takes into account your team victory or defeat, not your personal preference. Why?
    • In order to avoid people trying to manipulate the metrics used to increase their performance while making their team lose. Obvious example would be a carry 13-0-8 who refuses to take a risky fight because he doesn't want to be the one dying, even if that fight would have meant his team going 1-4 or 2-5 and an easy win for them.
  • Also because it's damn hard to find metrics which work for all champions and all roles in all games. This Tryndamere who made all the right calls and won you the game just by splitpushing has nothing to show for it once the game has ended and you're on the stat screen. How do you make sure he gets a proper scoring? This Blitzcrank who didn't actually kill anyone but zoned your opponents so hard you got a free 40 CS lead in lane phase, how do you automatically measure it? This Janna who warded perfectly and used her Talisman and passive to get you fast and safely around the map, how do you differentiate her from this dumb one who just spammed wards in lane bushes and has the same ward count?
  1. It's true that you only control 1/5 of the players. And so what? That's already enough for you to meaningfully impact the result of a game, and to climb pretty fast. If your personal impact makes you win only 1/5 games and the other 4 are 2W/2L, that gives you a total of 3W/2L, so a 60% win rate, which is huge, and you'll climb pretty fast.

because that means riot would have to do some actually math and work to create an algorithm for their rating system instead of using a system already created.

If you play well, have a positive attitude, and never troll. You have a chance to get 1-4 bad players on your team. But the enemy team will have a 1-5 chance of getting bad players on theirs. You are in control of 1/5th of your team, because it's a team game, not a "you" game. But if you make that 1/5th good, that means at a minimum 1/5th of your team will always be good, and therefore you will climb.

The end.
