Last time I checked, it doesn't stop any CC, just damage. If that's changed, I'd be happy to have people enlighten me though.

Kayle's ulti grants Invulnerable.

Invulnerable as a status effect in League is defined as a status that reduces all damage taken to 0 (except "pure damage"**).

It does not block CC, only damage.

There are only 2 instances of pure damage, one is "external" and the other "internal". The only external sources of pure damage is fountain laser, which ignores most of the status effects in the game. The only internal source of pure damage is in Sion's zombie rush, or specifically the part where Sion quickly loses his HP upon the passive's activation, making for instance Kayle incapable of forcibly keeping Sion's zombie mode alive with her ulti.
