Let's Talk About Aery Balance

Right now Aery outclasses Comet in almost every way, except if you're Morgana and you land a q then quickly follow up with your w. Aery has FAR more reliability and a MUCH lower cooldown, so it doesn't matter that it does a little less damage. It's honestly ridiculous how fast Aery travels back after one auto attack from even a ranged champion for some poke. I think there should be a minimum cooldown on Aery for offensive usage at least. This needs to be fixed or Comet will be rarely used. Please fix it Riot, at least in one of the next few patches.

Aery does technically have a two second cooldown, plus travel time.

However, that still massively outstrips Comet's DPS, especially early game.

Riot needs to resolve the runes better. Aery should JUST be about supporting/protecting. Comet should CLEARLY be the poke tool of choice.

That could be a potential fix and I would be fine with it but apparently support mains aren't because they downvoted your post. I got it back up to one though.

The way they showed it way back when made it seem like a support thing (little video of Janna using it) but I'm guessing it's used more for attacking and poke now, they'll know this because they'll see what champs are using it.

Level 1 vs comet. 20 damage vs 30 Hits from an auto and automatically targets enemy vs can miss No cooldown other than returning to you vs 20 seconds

I think they need to add a significant cooldown (big one), supports aren't generally healing over and over in less than 2 seconds unless they are Soraka late with max cdr. But people like Teemo can proc it twice in as many seconds just because of his poison, in other words, 40 garrenteed damage from Aery in a few seconds or missing 30 damage and then having to wait 20 seconds to try and miss again.

Reliability..

They do similar damage but Comet doesn't always land.

I think it's likely we'll see nerfs to Aery in exactly that direction. It's a problem that the community has picked up on.

Having said that, Meddler's recent gameplay notes didn't mention aery or comet, so I'm not sure what Riot's data is telling them about this perception. Would be nice to get some clarity on that.

Yeah that concerns me that Meddler didn't mention anything about Aery in the dev post but I did read in another post that Aery has a small damage nerf planned to go on live which is on the PBE right now. That's not going to be enough in my opinion.
