Why are there Plats in my Silver 1 Promos?
I've never understood the matchmaking system in LoL. If I'm fighting to get into Gold V, why do I have to face players a full division above that? Seems very broken. Please help me understand.

It could be because they were boosted the previous season and they fell down to their natural MMR. That or your MMR is vastly higher than your division and you're underestimating how skilled you are, so climbing is going to involve fighting people that are at your skill level.

I get all that. But on a basic logic level: You belong in Gold if you can beat a group of silver 1's, not Higher golds and plats. I know there is hidden MMR, but I'm questioning that entire system.
Assuming your hidden MMR is indeed higher than your current division, you should be getting some pretty high LP gains. Is that the case?

Around 25 a game.
That's pretty freaking high. usually a neutral MMR would get something around 18LP, an high MMR would get 21-22 and a low would be 15.
So man, you probably got a Gold 2-3 MMR. If you "win" these promos with a positive win rate, you should skip Gold 5 althogether.
P.S. By "win", I mean if you have to repeat the promos without falling down to get back up in promos.
I just don't understand why the other team is full of plats or high golds, but my team is mostly silvers. Doesn't make sense to me.
Your MMR is somewhere around Gold 2-3.
Theirs is probably somewhere around there too.
That's all. You have the same skill level.
Okay, but my rank is Silver 1. And I'm having trouble climbing out atm because the other team is full of plats and they outplay my silver teammates every game.
That's fairly high. You're facing these people because your internal matchmaking is leveling you out several divisions higher. So naturally, as you win games, you're going to climb to your true ranking within 20-30 games.
Unless you're just insanely lucky. But we can give you the benefit of the doubt. :P
I was gold 2 last season, so I believe you're right. I just don't understand why Riot puts more emphasis on making everyone's win rate around 50%, versus just letting me get to where I'm supposed to be, and then evening out my win average.
