What is the purpose of ARAM

What is the purpose of ARAM anymore? It used to be that you would get decent teams on either side. Now a days, for what seems like the past two seasons, you get wholly unbalanced teams. For example, all tanks & bruisers vs ranged poke. A rare game, you may see one side with some semblance of a SR team.

I enjoyed learning a new or lesser played champion in ARAM. Working in a team dynamic was great. Sadly, it is all but gone. It would seem that Riot doesn't have a purpose for ARAM anymore.
