You pretty much have to be a diver to use Ohmwrecker to any efficiency at all.
But many champions can dive ... Amumu Jungle, Camille Top, Alistar Support ... how do we narrow it down?
- Let's look at the Stats of Ohmwrecker to try and see who would reasonably want to build it:
- +50 Armor
- +10% CDR
- +300 Health
- +150% Base Health Regen
- Cost: 2650 Gold
So the item gives tank stats, which is fitting for someone who might be under an enemy tower tanking a couple shots before disabling the tower.
Some Observations:
######This is not an exhaustive list of utility items but you should get the idea; please don't kill me.
#Supports
For someone such as a Support to consider purchasing Ohmwrecker, they're looking at a pretty hefty investment, at least by their standards.
|Pros |Cons|
|-
|1.) Supports are some of the best champions to stack utility onto as they don't typically value damage items or extreme durability| 1.) Supports already function on tight budgets and typically don't have means to justify purchasing items that cost more than 2300 Gold (unless fed or the situation calls for it) |
|2.) The combine cost for Ohmwrecker is fairly forgiving, as you only need 950 Gold to purchase it after obtaining all of its components. (Abyssal Mask, for example, requires 1180 flat gold after its components are purchased) | 2.) Ohmwrecker, for its price, gives fairly mediocre stats to offset its active ability (disabling towers) which is already infrequently used. The return on investment is rather poor for most situations (there are plenty of situations where Righteous Glory. Frozen Heart, or Abyssal Mask would be useful, but their cost restricts opportunities for supports to purchase the items more often.) |
The biggest issue for Ohmwrecker likely is that it isn't quite as useful in unorganized play (hard to coordinate a tower dive to begin with, let alone pull it off correctly), and in organized play a tank + stopwatches or Vladimir pools or other untargetabilities can mimic what Ohmwrecker is meant to accomplish -- making a tower dive easier to pull off.
- Particularly beefy or sustain-heavy champions (
,
,
,
) could just tank the tower for years and effectively negate a tower for their team.
- Many champions have means of resetting tower aggro in their kit (

,
,
or at least I believe Yuumi can)
- Many champions have ways of negating the tower's damage to themselves or to their team, or provide a reliable way for their team to escape the tower aggro (

That being said, there are still some champions who could consider getting the item:
- Doesn't need much gold to function (WQ Combo) and his R is all the beefiness he needs. Ohmwrecker could reset the tower shot damage or allow for even longer dives after his R runs out.
- While not a diver, his R + Ohmwrecker can provide ridiculously long periods of time where towers can't fire.
As far as particularly special use situations go, that's about it. Most other supports would basically use it to disable the tower as soon as they dive in

######Now let's move on to the next group who could reasonably make use of Ohmwrecker.
#The Other Laners and Junglers
- While technically anyone could purchase the item, generally speaking:
- Bottom Laners value damage too highly to build much of anything else (even their 'defensive items' are still very AD heavy:

, etc.)
- Bottom Laners also tend to be immobile and squishy to offset their range, DPS, general lack of dependence on resource values (mana, cdr), and ability to kite.
- Mid Laners typically won't pull off a dive unless they know they already have the tools to get back out within their kit
- Mid Laners do frequently buy Stopwatches in order to give themselves this tool, but it's more a defensive item that can be used offensively.
- Mid Laners typically value damage too highly to be overtly concerned with purchasing utility for their team that isn't already provided in their kit or itemizing to be tanky.
Top Laners and Junglers would be the only other groups to reasonably expect to see value utility, but even then there's the issue of having better items already available. Why pour so many resources into one item that negates tower damage for a short while when you could just purchase an item to be more tanky ALWAYS and just use that extra health to tank the tower for your team when the time comes around to try a tower dive?
Just a snippet of my personal thoughts.
