Riven help.

Okay, so I'm currently having issues with this Champion.

I find her pretty fun, and was interested in playing her after seeing some plays.

Here's my problem.

My snowball potential is BEYOND hit or miss. I basically have to get 3 kills within 10 minutes and then free roam to snowball.

Which isn't the case because most people in my normals MMR are smarter than that.

Now, I can CS incredibly well on Riven.. IF given the chance.

However I'm finding that every champion i go up against in lane is either an over the top counter, or they come back after first buy with armor and just free farm while my poke does nothing then out-trades me in duels in the end. Brutalizer doesn't help AT ALL in this situation.

My problem is, I either counter-picked 90% of the time ( in normals mind you ), or the top laner builds one armor item and it's pretty much free-roam or sink in lane. Which results in them free-farming, getting global gold for team, and the carrying late-game.

I've had a few good games, and many of which I've just straight up sunk.

I almost always play smart, but Riven is a very all-in champion, and a risk taker. Which is what I'm trying to work on. I'm trying to better myself and make myself more confident in my ability to clear people. But I just can't.

I need to know what I need to do to counter their insane armor. By the time I get last whisper, they're already far too ahead in CS to compete.

I try to focus on CS and they REALISE how easily I get out-traded with their insane tankiness and force me out of lane. No matter how many times I try to dive in, stun and gtfo. They just out-trade me.

This is incredibly frustrating for me to try all I can to out-play someone, to be countered so god damned easily.

TL;DR - I'm either insanely good or more often straight garbage on Riven. Need to find the medium. Riven is fun, want to main because her plays are fucking beautiful. Having trouble vs anyone who builds ANY kind of armor in lane. PLS HELP.

Everyone, today is the day that we will see a Riven complain about their champion not being good enough.

Is an ad-lich bane passive, 3 abilties on 1 button, all also counting as mobility and the 3rd being a knockup, an ad scaling aoe stun, a 100% ad health shield that is also a dash, a steroid ultimate that strengthens all 3 of your other abilities, but also an aoe execute not good enough for you to work with?

I dont think he's complaining, I think he's asking how to play her

jesus christ take your toxic somewhere else.

I know what her kit consists of, and I know it's a great kit.

I just end up rather weak in lane after the enemy laner gets an armor item on first buy & brutalizer doesn't help at all.

I want to make her seem stronger, give me more confidence in lane and in general going in on any champion.

i should mention that i MAIN support.

I usually carry as support & snowball my ADC incredibly well.

What do you use for runes and masteries? Do you start with q or e? what items do you start with? If you do a custom game and focus on cs how many do you have at 5/10/15min?

If I'm having a good match I'll have around 160-190 cs by 20 min.

I typically start with sword3. But sometimes start cloth5, which I'll never do again because it's really not plausible to me.

My preferred skill start is E, then W for constant safe poking. Which is easily countered by darius ( hate this champ ).

5-10 min idk how much cs i can get. it completely depends on where my stance is in lane.

Also, Nuclear; why do you say that? Riven looks and can be really fun. I want to be able to play her confidently vs any champion in lane.

Chances are, given my current duo partners lack of skill and ability to use more than 2 wards in a 50 min match, I'll more than likely end up in bronze and will need to carry myself out solo.. So I'd like to get really good at a possibly awesome low-ban rate champion that isn't always support.

I could support my way out, but I want versatility in-case someone else would prefer to play support.

Riven main here, here is some tips i use to help with riven.

  • Start Dorans Blade Vs Melee champions (dorans shield if they are AA dependant, Cloth isnt usually a recommended start IMO)
  • Riven doesn't always have to all in, you can q, AA walk back and use the other qs to either go all in or back out for the damage.
  • Rivens shield is short CD, So if you spam e when you think they are about to do something like nasus q or renek q, you will absorb the damage.
  • KEEP PLAYING - i've played near 100 games within a month with riven and all you can do is get better, her skill cap is very high so you can keep getting better.
  • Watch high elo streamers like box box, he will explain what he does why he does and he will probably make or break my tips.
  • Ask a friend to 1v1 you with your worst " counters " and eventually you will become great against them. ( garen is said to be rivens worst counter, but after experience i can easily predict him and win lane).
  • when all else fails ask your jungler to gank, riven snowballs pretty hard so anything you can do to get a kill is worth it. (usually for first blood i find myself flashing+AA for the kill).
  • Armor shouldn't be too much of a problem for riven, since her main core item that you should be rushing is a brutalizer, (which late game changes to black cleaver, making her even more effective vs. tanks).

Remember, a truly master of a champion has no counters. Just keep playing and when you get matched up in an unfavorable lane, watch what you do wrong but also watch what they do wrong. Feel free to reply to this with specific questions and i will try my best to answer.
